How low can an FG go?

As the title says, Just bottled my Evil Dog Double IPA, OG was 1060 FG 1000. I took 3 readings as I'm paranoid I got it wrong, even took a reading from tap water to confirm. Just amazed really as I added in 2 extra litres to lower the % a bit as the box reckoned it should be 7.2% I managed...

    Selection of hop pellets

I've had a bog standard 1 can kit on the go for nearly a week (Geordie's Yorkshire bitter with 1kg beer enhancer & 400g dextrose). I've got 3 packets (100g each) of hop pellets courtesy of the Malt Miller: Summit - Adds Bitterness & grapefruit Cascade - Adds Floral / Spicy perfume Mount Hood -...

    Storage of Hop Pellets

Just dipping in to the fountain of knowledge here. I've heard about hops being kept fresh(ish) in the freezer for a number of months. Should I do the same with hop pellets or are they ok left out (in selaed bags) in a central heated house? Thanks Maffa

A Thankyou to posters & helpers

Hello All Well I have now been brewing at home for a year since the good wife brought me the basic brew kit for Xmas last year and over that time it has seemed like at times I really didn't know what to do. Chemistry was never a strong point at school so me mixing up stuff to consume and get...

Does your beer make you Fart?

Excuse the uncouth question, but its been on my mind for a while and I think the wife is getting fed up with it (me farting that is, it not being on my mind). Anyway, I’ve become quite fond of the festival ale kits due to the decent quality of the hop pellets and outright flavour but I’ve...

    Advice on sugar in Kit

Hi All I've just got myself a Festival London Porter kit and wanted to do something a bit different. I've never ventured outside of adding anything extra to kits but I think its experimenting time. This kit says no added sugar required as its a standard Festival 2 can kit, but I want to make...

    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

Well it’s a brand spanking new kit on the market, and seeing as the Festival Golden Stag kit was absolutely fantastic, I couldn’t refuse! It cost me a squidgen under £25 and the box says I should be getting 5.7% ABV, we’ll have to wait and see on that one! Here’s the blurb on the box...

Winebuddy starter kit for under £6

Picked up this Cav Sav starter kit from tesco's yesterday for £5.74 (reduced from £23) Couldn't believe it, two 5L buckets, 1 lid, grommit and airlock, syphon, hydrometer, steriliser, 6 bottle wine kit, sachets of nutrient, yeast & oak chips. I know it wont be the best wine made, but the kit...

    Re-hydrating Dry yeast

Have just read an interesting thread on the Woodford Wherry where its suggested you rehydrate the dry yeast to hopefully stop the 'stuck fermentation' problem. I've read a few other threads on (gulp) other forums that make me think that it could cause more problems than actually solve. I.e...

    Brew Belt or Heater Tray?

I'm toying with buying one of the above as my brews at home obviously lose heat during the night. I've tried wrapping up the fv, and even putting it in the airing cupboard but it still drops below the magic 20C. Can anyone offer advice on whats best, how they work etc? I've read somewhere...

Do Beer Kits have a best before / use by date?

Just thinking out loud here peeps. I mentioned to some work friends that I currently have a brew on and one chap said he had a few old kits in his garage that I could have; but that are probably about 5 years old. As they are sealed and in tins, are we talking corned beef life expectancy here...

Was OK, but not now. Is re-primeing a waste of time?

Guys, I've had 28 pints in a plastic keg for about 5 weeks. The beer was great and gassy initially, now I noticed when I'd taken say 12 pints out, the remaining beer had lost all signs of life. I had a small leak very early on after priming (mentioned here ===>>> viewtopic.php?f=36&t=34672)...

Too late to stir - low OG

I put on my second brew on Monday (2 tin summer ale kit) and stupidly went through the motions when I should have stopped and thought. - Both tins were warmed thoroughly and put in fv followed by 3 litres of boiling water - Stirred - topped up from height with about 19 litlres of room...

    Brewing with Fruit

Hi all My first brew is still on the go and I may be getting ahead of myself here, but I had a few bottles last night (which were bought and I cant remember the brewery or the name) that was zesty with heavy tones of grapefruit. One of the nicest beers I have had in ages. Anyway, I was...

    Another Leaky Keg

Hi all, Hi , I'm New to the forums and new to brewing (1st brew is in progress) but have hit a snag. I've got a plastic keg and the seal around the tap leaks when the pressure build up. Its 4 days in since primed and it has leaked twice much to the annoyance of the wife (although the house...

    A quick Hello

Hi The good wife blessed me with my first home brew kit for Chrimbo, and its a week in as I type. Thought I'd pop in and say hello, I shall be posting a question pretty damn quick as I have a small leak in the plastic keg (have seen a similar post, just a further question). :drink:
