    Replacement Wine Screw caps

Hi Bob, They look great! Will they work on cork type bottles or only on the screw top bottles? How are you taking payment? Paypal?

    Beaverdale Merlot 6 bottle kit

I started this kit on 9/2/2013, made it exactly according to the kit instructions. OG 1082 and FG of 995 making a final ABV of 11.5 After racking, it was bottled on 14/03/2013. As usual, I got 5 1/2 bottles so the half went for sampling. The results from the sample were very promising! It had a...

Cellar 7 Merlot time (With a dash of Ribena)

That's no added sugar Ribena you've got there so I would guess it will be high in other sweeteners, well worth a check otherwise you'll end up with a very sweet wine. If you're going to put it in pre-fermentation, you should boil it in some water to drive off the preservatives which don't play...

    Screwtop wine bottles

Additional: I have noticed what appears to be some air leakage past the corks in screwtop bottles. I am going to monitor closely but it does not bode well! :nah:

how does your significant other feel about your home brew

Currently single so not a nag in the world! I did mention to my ex that I was brewing and she looked genuinely interested. But then again, she is a borderline alcoholic!

    ommited bentonite

Just quickly re-reading the instructions that came with my Beaverdale Merlot - the instructions are generic - they state quite clearly that the sachet of bentonite should be sprinkled on the surface of the grape juice (for white wine only) 15 minutes before the addition of the yeast. It doesn't...

    Screwtop wine bottles

Interesting thread. I have been asking family to save all the wine bottles they get (productive bunch they are, too!) a good deal of these bottles were the screw type and I'd been binning the tops as part of the cleaning process, thinking I'd cork them all. I put one of my value meads into...

    WoW maturing time?

Well, this thread gives me a little hope. I've just bottled up a demijohn full of WOW, the normal 5.5 bottles so had the half as a taster. I'm not best pleased with it. I guess it now needs several months in the bottle to be drinkable!

    Flat beer - bottled

A thought occurs... I'm not 100% sure I rinsed the bottles between sterilising and filling, I would have drained them after sterilising with Miltons. Could this have killed all the yeast?

That's not a motorbike! If it was, you'd never have seen either of them again!

How many gallons of Wine, Cider + Misc in 2013?

Ooohhh... I've contributed to the beet thread but not this one so I've a little catchup to do here.... 2 gallons Tesco value mead 1 gallon beaverdale merlot 1 gallon ginger wine 1 gallon WOW 1 gallon coffee wine 1 gallon wilkinsons cabernet sauvignon Totals 152 gallons of wine 73 gallons of...

    Flat beer - bottled

OK, they're all back out of the cold cupboard and on the table covered with the towel again. I guess it'll take a while for them to get back up to temperature. It's a shame, I was hoping they'd be at least demi-drinkable for when my family come down but that's not looking likely now. I suppose...

Can I get that from my LHBS? How much per bottle? :wha:

    Flat beer - bottled

Hmm... I did rack it to a clean FV but didn't add anything. Perhaps I just didn't give it enough time to regrow yeasties... I don't think it was the cold - since I started brewing, I've been keeping my central heating on 24/7 - costing me a small fortune but it's well worth it. The bottles on...

    Flat beer - bottled

I've been searching the forum and everything relating to flat beer seems to be associated with barrels. I have flat been in bottles. I must be special. The kit was a Wilkinsons Golden Ale. I bottled with about 3g sugar in each so I wasn't expecting a massively fizzy brew but a bit of a head...

we never had an i pad...

Excellent stuff. Didn't make me feel sad though. Made me feel old. I remembered everything so I guess I'm not as old as it made me feel!

    Do you fit the stereotype?

Beard? No. Stubble? Certainly! Lazy shaver, once a week. Last had a beard about 11 years ago although the stubble is often longer than the (lack of) hair on my head! I've been shaving my head since I lost my mohecian 23 years ago. Sandals? Check - but not for everyday use, only for the beach and...

    Coffee wine - recipe questions

I added 3L of water to mine to keep the fermentation out of the airlock. It reached the neck :) It's still going strong, I've put my biggest airlock on and it's still churning away like merry. I also added an additional 400g of demerara to get it up to the strength I was looking for. I'll be...
