    2nd brew started (at last!)

Thanks. The instructions 'helpfully' don't mention the OG, but it sounds like all is not lost! I'll remember to do extra stirring next time, but this one is now fermenting, so that's a happy sight! :)

    2nd brew started (at last!)

Hooray - after a few weeks of delays, I've finally done most of the work on setting off my 2nd ever brew. It's John Bull's London Porter. Bought it on a whim - couldn't find any reviews of it once purchased, but hey, I'll just see how it turns out! I mostly followed the brilliant instructions...

    Little bottler/FV tap advice

    Great - thanks for that ... :)

    Little bottler/FV tap advice

Now getting ready to start my second brew and need to fit the little bottler tap onto the FV (it's a plastic bucket type one). Roughly how high/low should I drill the hole to fit the tap? Thanks

    Little bottler/FV tap advice

I've now got my first brew conditioning, and have just bought my next kit - very excited! Sorry - bit of a newbie question here: After my long, drawn out efforts at bottling the first brew, I've been looking at fitting a tap and getting a little bottler for next time. However, my method of...

Kit Brewing Guide for 1st Time Brewers. Beer and Ale.

I've only just seen this thread, but I shall definitely have a few more reads of it before I start my next brew. Great stuff Kyle :thumb:

    Starting my first brew today!

Thanks for the reassurance mattrickl06. I'm quietly confident it will get easier! Thanks for the tip Kyle - I'll have a think about this - that certainly seems like a good solution :thumb:

    Starting my first brew today!

Blimey - that was traumatic!!!!! I never realised brewing beer was going to be so stressful!! Hopefully I'll be a bit less panicky next time round! I managed to get another 3 1-litre bottles out of it through tilting the FV, though hopefully I haven't stirred up the bottom too much. Think next...

    Starting my first brew today!

Thanks for that. I'll try tilting it slightly then and see how I get on ... :|

    Starting my first brew today!

Well - I'm part way through bottling the stuff, and was wondering how much residue should there be at the bottom?! I remember in wine-making days there was always some cloudy stuff that got left at the bottom of the demi-john, but I'm struggling a bit here! The homebrew kit I got includes a...

    Starting my first brew today!

Cheers Kyle - can't wait to get it finished and start drinking! Thanks Pittsy - it was out of curiosity, really - I don't think I'm ever likely to leave it that long! Already planning on going to the homebrew shop at the weekend to pick my next brew :)

    Starting my first brew today!

Well, it calmed down, as predicted. And I got a stick on thermometer. I've just taken a gravity reading, and (after 8 days) it's a 1.004. Though it's flipping difficult reading the teeny tiny scale on the hydrometer! I'm assuming this is sounding about right now? I don't have time to do...

    Starting my first brew today!

Hmmm - seems to have calmed down a bit now (hopefully not too much...). We turned the aquarium heater down a tad, but then it was obviously colder overnight with the central heating off and the snowy weather, so I'm hoping it hasn't got too cold now. Think I need to get me one of those stick on...

    Snow Watch 2011 - 2012 - 2013

Hello from snowy Sheffield! Coming down thick and fast here at the moment. Have skived off work today (didn't fancy attempting the drive into the Peak District in this).

    Starting my first brew today!

Cheers Kyle - I'm a bit overexcited by it, and can't wait to have a taste! It smells lovely already, but ... It's escaping!!! Is this normal??

    Starting my first brew today!

Cheers alawlor66430 and bunkerbrewer. Pleased to report it's already fermenting - the froth has already reached the top of the lid (I haven't got an airlock, so just have the lid loosely on top). Exciting stuff :D

    Starting my first brew today!

The instructions seemed to say to add it right at the start. I'd already poured in the gloop from the tin and 2 jugs of boiling water, then topped up to 20litres before realising. I dissolved it in boiling water, chucked it in and stirred, then topped up to the 23litre mark. I'm hoping it's all...

    Starting my first brew today!

Right it's on. It was all a bit traumatic (I forgot to add the sugar when I was supposed to, but added it later ... I knew I shouldn't have attempted it when I was at home by myself!). Fingers crossed now though... :drink:

    Starting my first brew today!

Great - thanks both. Right - I'd better get going with it, if I'm ever going to drink it!

    Starting my first brew today!

Hi there I'm new! I got a brewing kit for Christmas, and now we've sorted out a cosy cupboard to keep it in, I'm starting it off today :) Just waiting for the sterilising to finish, then I'll be off. First question (already...!!) - I've got instructions from the shop and the instructions from...
