    moving to extract (small batches)

How big a pot would you need to do a 1 gallon BIAB brew allowing for headspace to prevent boilover?

    Coopers Original Stout Review

The priming sugars are in such small quantities that they have no real effect on the flavour of the final beer

    Coopers Original Stout Review

This is becoming my go-to kit when I need to get a brew going that I can start guzzling quickly. Have tried it with DME before so decided to give it a go this time with LME. Brewed short to 21 litres on Saturday night and it already had taken off with a big foaming brain on top last night. Might...

St Peters Ruby Red Ale review

Bottled this one in mid-May and sampled over the weekend. It's only the second two-can kit I've done but I think it is a very nicely balanced kit with decent bitterness and great hop flavour. I brewed a bit short to 20.5 litres and came out with a ABV of just over 5%. I batch primed with 110g...

Bulldog Four finger Jack American Pale ale.

I thought this was lovely - didn't get the fruity taste that a few have mentioned, maybe a very slight floral hint at the finish but I put that down to the dry hopping. Gave it to SWMBO for a taste and she thought it was the best kit I've done yet. I'd definitely put it in the top five

Bulldog Four finger Jack American Pale ale.

So left this in the primary for 11 days over the crimbo and the racked off to a clean secondary with the addition of a hop tea and the 'tea-bags' for another 9 days. Was amazed at the amount of yeast which dropped out - more than any other kit by a country mile. FG was 1.005. Batch primed with...

Bulldog Four finger Jack American Pale ale.

Have just set this one off, made to instructions but brewed slightly short at 21 litres as i hate a thin beer. S.G. of 1.050. This is the first Bulldog kit I've tried and the plastic pouch is fantastic - very easy to rinse out and get all the extract into the FV without scalding your hands with...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

If I kept the 20 litre brew length how much DME could you leave out and still get the brew to ferment out fully with the kit yeast? Was thinking of adding some oatmeal to the next brew alright to improve the body. I find a lot of Coopers kits a bit sweet for my taste with 1 kilo of DME

    Coopers Original Stout Review

I'm a big fan of this kit. Currently drinking a bottled batch to Ditch's recipe and loving it. (1kg DME and 1 cup brown sugar, brewed to 20l) The one thing I would change if I could is the slight sweetness - i would like it to be slightly more bitter. I'm hoping some of the more seasoned brewers...

    Milestone Crusader

Brewferm Grand Cru is supposed to be very similar to Leffe Blonde, with a similar ABV - but I haven't tried it yet, it will probably be my first brew of the new year. Mind you I had heard similar claims about Milestone Crusader being similar to Leffe but from what I saw about it the ABV is 4.5%...

Re: Brewferm Oud Vlaams Bruin/Old Brown Beer

Put this one on last night - brewed as per instructions with brown candi sugar. OG 1062. Will hide it away somewhere once bottled to try and keep it until autumn next year when it's well conditioned. Drank alot of my Brewferm Tripel and Adbij too early - even though they were lovely at the time...

    Better Brew Czech Pilsner

Batch primed at around 7g/l with Dextrose. Was about right for my taste.

    Better Brew Czech Pilsner

I had same starting and finishing gravities as yours. I took my readings 11 days apart just because I hadn't time to do any in between. I bottled at 1.012 and had no explosions!

    Better Brew, IPA

Tried this last night. Bottled a few (6 I think) without dry-hopping and then dry-hopped the rest for about 10 days with 40g of East Kent Goldings. Came out at just over 6% Definitely glad I dry-hopped - the flavour difference is immediately obvious. Would be happy to pay for this down the pub...

    What hops to add?

Shirley by the time you are dry hopping there is enough alcohol in the brew to minimise / kill off the infection risk - presuming dry-hopping takes place after primary fermentation is complete. I am serious and don't call me Shirley!

    Better Brew Czech Pilsner

Had just bottled the Better Brew IPA and decided to get this one going. Brewed with 1kg Extra Light Spraymalt and threw in 195g Dextrose left in the bag after priming the IPA. OG 1.050 when topped up to 20 litres. Looking forward to this one! Will update when ready for sampling. Checked the...

    Better Brew, IPA

Brewed this one last night to 20 litres with 1kg light spraymalt and no sugar - OG 1052. Planning on dry hopping after primary fermentation is finished. Sitting happily at 22C because of mini heat-wave here in Ireland and bubbling away nicely!

    Coopers Australian Pale Ale

Agree with giving it time - this was recommended by the guy in my LHBS, so I brewed a few months back with the June Bank Holiday in mind. Used 1kg light DME and topped up to 20.5 litres. Tested one at the weekend, not a huge amount of flavour, but a nice crisp refreshing pint - perfect for a...
