    coopers kit yeast

I know that their priming yeast is the same as their primary fermentation yeast, but Im unsure (I dont think so) if the kit yeast is the same as the commercial strain. Here is some information which may help Original Series:- Ac (26807) International Series:- Australian Pale Ale - Ac+L...

    yeast washing rinsing confusion...

you get better separation if it's not too cold as the good yeast will want to flocc with the trub.. you can let it warm back up to room temp and do it at that stage easily enough. separate, into starter.. boom :thumb:

What can I do with it?

    harvesting from primary or secondary

er.. ok... simmer down mate, you seem to have a bit of a bee in your kaboose.. I bottled for a number of years 300+ 750ml bottles, a small army of Grolsch bottles so please to not be making assumptions. I also have a little 9lt keg on a trolley I like to take to parties, very transportable...

    harvesting from primary or secondary

what are bottles? :wha:  Completely agree, secondary isnt the place to harvest yeast... well unless it's a wit, I guess that it wouldnt matter as much in that instance.

    More yeast growing questions

If you have made a starter, this implies you started with a small amount you wished to grow, an un-aerated starter will not produce a healthy (as healthy) stock of yeast due to the anaerobic conditions. (Aerobic fermentation is where they grow, anaerobic is where they switch to fermentation)...

    More yeast growing questions

You really should be aerating the starter, to be honest I wouldnt be using that lot, check out http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html for both starters and slurry pitching rates/tools, I used this quite a lot until I worked out the patterns. (I use the compact yeast slider all the way to thick...

Ways to get the FG down to zero

the reasoning (rightly or wrongly) is that with mash brewing at least you can control the resultant wort, with extract you have what you have been given. Though you will be creating simple sugar chains, IMO there is still a taste difference to the final product. Cheers

Ways to get the FG down to zero

in my experience, beers with too much simple sugars end up not being the greatest, as the OP has said he is an AG brewer his best bet will be to mash low for a more fermentable wort. At least that way his yeast will stay happy and be able to make a clean beer. Well.. thats how I see it anyway.

Ways to get the FG down to zero

specialty yeasts or dry enzyme (as already mentioned), if you are a mash brewer then mash really low (more fermentable), a combination or all of these will result in a lower FG, but will also strip the body out of the beer, what makes beer beer is the balance between bitterness and sweetness +...

Do hops go out of date?

if they were cold stored, fridge freezer that is, I'd be OK with it, but if they were just sitting on a shelf Id be a 'tad' more concerned.. some softwares like beersmith have the function of telling you what the AA% reduction is over time I believe. Cheers

    Galaxy hops

I think passion friut when I think of this hop, it's one Ive used fairly extensively and I kind have to disagree with some of the above, I think it's a fairly dominating hop and can easily be over used, harsh for bittering but has a good flavour used late with supporting "C" hop additions. A...

Hiya all, Im still pretty new here so I thought I might share my brew rig. I use a 4V HERMS rig with a 19lt pot with a ghetto coil I made myself which runs off an immersion element, my ramp times are about 1'c per minute (roughly, maybe a touch over) Both the HLT and the HERMS are run off...
