Ageing wine in a pressure barrel?

I have a 20litre wine kit I am planning to start, so it's hopefully ready for the summer, but am wondering whether my clean beer pressure barrel will be suitable for ageing the wine so I don't have to bottle straight away? Appeciate any advice or suggestions.

I also have plenty of fruit in the freezer ~ blackberries redcurrants etc. if I can use the apples does anyone have a recipe either for straight apple cider, or an apple fruit mix? All help...

First post, cheap hobby, wilkinsons golden ale

I agree the wilko's golden ale is a definite hit (you'll find several pages of almost entirely positive reviews on this forum) I am also on my 4th brew, and have found the results go down very well with all beer and even lager drinkers!

    Mouldy top

Have just returned from hols, and the brew I started just before I left (about 2.5 weeks ago) is just showing the first signs of mould growth in The fermenter, assume that there is no way to salvage this one, and that it's a start again situation :(

    strawberry wine

Assume your punnet is a lb (454g)? Most of the recipes I have seen use about 2kg of strawbs per 1.3kg of sugar, so sounds a bit short of strawbs to me. I hav just racked my strawb wine (made using the above ratio of fruit to sugar) to a secondary demijohn, and it had a really good, but not...

I need help on Larger Kits

I have had good success with the Wilko Mexican Cerveza kit. Had really good feedback from just using brewing sugar ( came out at 5% despite what it says on the can) so u could add extra spray malt if you want it stronger. Even though outside temp is 25degrees plus, I expect that a room in the...

Lots of fruit to use - any suggestions or recipes

Great, thanks for your help, will give it a go and report back. Have just bottled a rhubarb wine, and even before ageing it tasted pretty damn drinkable, which has given me more confidence to try another fruit wine. Am definitely getting into this brewing lark!!!

Lots of fruit to use - any suggestions or recipes

I have a freezer with a reasonable amount (at least 3kg) of fruit from last summer. It includes red currents gooseberries blackberries black currents etc and now have fresh to harvest too, so am looking to use some/ all for a brew (it's too hot for crumble!) could I make a fruit "cider" without...

    Wilko's Own Brand Cerveza.

This brew is going down really well in our house (in fact it's disappearing far too quickly for my liking!) Even though i only used sugar. As mentioned by others goes v well with a BBQ! Need to bottle the Wilko golden ale that's in my FV so I can start another Cerveza before I run out, and my...

    Best brands for beer kits

The wilko's golden ale is a great choice, and gets very good reviews on this forum (and from me!). Also the Woodfordes range is very popular, especially the Wherry. Happy brewing!

Brewmaker Best of British Yorkshire Bitter

Well I tried mine as promised, and was completely underwhelmed! Bland and no head retention. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, and allow it a few more weeks to see if that improves the taste  Won't be rushing to repeat this though, back to Wilkes golden ale and Wherry I think ;)

Brewmaker Best of British Yorkshire Bitter

Mine fermented well, and has now been bottled. It's currently in the warm, but due to be moved to the garage this weekend. I'll give one a try (purely to make sure it's secondary fermentation was ok ;) ) and will report back.

    Bottle question

Apologies if I am being dim, but if this info is correct, why is the number of brewers using clear bottles increasing? E.g shepherd neame, batemans, Greene king etc all use clear bottles, with no skulking that I have tasted? I'm confused! :wha:

    50% off

I went yesterday morning, and they were still fully stocked, or at least were before I took the last Wherry! Have got a few things that I'd been thinking about trying, e.g some wine and fruit cider, as well as enough kits to get me stocked up for Christmas! Can't complain at £8 for a 2 can...

To bottle or not to bottle?

I am currently brewing a Brewmaker best of British Yorkshire bitter. OG was 1044, and now 3 weeks later with temp pretty constant at 19 degrees it seems to have stopped at 1015. This works out to 3.8%, is this FG low enough, or does it need a gentle stir and another week? I'm not fussed about...

    Wilko's Own Brand Cerveza.

No, it seems to come with the same yeast as in their bitter kits, e.g the Wilko golden ale. I bottled mine last night, which I had made with the free brewing sugar. It had started at 1046, & finished at 1008, which was lower than I had expected - anyone else seen this? Didn't taste that great...
