    Dr. Rudi Pale Ale

The aroma is mellow enough for me compared to some US hops, but maybe faded a bit since I brewed it.

    CRS and Gypsum etc

I use CRS and DLS to treat my brewing water but I am interested to use crs and gypsum etc for a few brews to compare. Any guidelines for adding individual salts aong with crs for pale ales to bring out the hops?. I use a salifert kh test to test alkalinity but do not have any other values to...

Flaked Barley substitute in extract dry stout

Recipe is a novice extract brewer I know who does not live local, been an AG brewer myself for a while now. I just remember a porter I made before with just crystal and choc malt, the head retention was pretty poor. Some seem to say carapils does not seem to add sweetness, might get different...

Flaked Barley substitute in extract dry stout

I am trying to put together an extract dry stout for someone and not sure what to use instead of flaked barley. Carapils seems to be an option but do not want to add any caramel sweetness to a dry stout. Do you think carapils is a good sub or what else could I use?

    Oat husks in mash

Cheers for replies. I will probably put them in with the mash as I could forget to put them in before the sparge :D

    Oat husks in mash

I am planning to do a wheat beer soon and was wondering should I mash the oat husks or add them after the mash. I will rinse them out with some boiling water before I add them to the mash tun. Just wondering is there a need to mash them at all or do the bits of oats left on the husks need to be...

I've just measured my kettle element hole...

A 38mm hole is sometimes fine but can be too tight for some elements. If its plastic you can enlarge it slightly with a bit of sandpaper rolled up if too tight. I would make a trial hole in a bit of plastic and see what works best.

    Dr. Rudi Pale Ale

I brewed this up yesterday with NZ hop Dr. Rudi as the main player. Really nice citrusy smelling hop which is formely known as super alpha I think. The NZ folks are really bringing out some intersting hops :thumb: , might try a kohatu pale ale next. In the fermenting fridge now and will dryhop...

    Question for NI Members

I use thehomebrewcompany and they are great to deal with. They are a forum sponsor of this site too. It is run by brewers who know their stuff not like some other sites who are really clueless. Others on boards have complained about shortdated products/past expiry from homebrew.ie, so hard to...

Mixed gas regulator for this cylinder

Ye meant to send him an email alright. It is a bass tank, the original regulator was possibly connected with some tubing with female ends and not connected directly to the tank.

Mixed gas regulator for this cylinder

I have this mixed gas nitroigen/co2 cylinder below, but it comes with a male thread rather than your usual female for mixed gas. Any idea of where I can get a regulator to fit this. We have a stout nearly ready and it would be sweet to use the nitrogen with it. I searched ebay etc but only see...

    10 gallon Herms build

Cheers for the detailed post there Vossy :thumb: . Just thinking about it that while the HE is keeping the mash constant I will only have one element to heat the sparge water as you said. This might take too long with one element to heat the sparge water, it takes me about 40-50 min to get the...

I have a 50L hlt with two elements,70 litre boiler also with two elements and a 70L thermobox m/t. I bought them from someone who had it set up for herms previously but I am building a new control panel with two power inputs. I am going to build a 10L ? heat exchanger with an element at the...

    Fuse for PID?

I am slowly getting parts to build a herms control box and not sure what fuse to use to protect the PID. I am probably going to use a panel mount fuse holder like these http://radionics.rs-online.com/web/c/fu ... -type=List, so just need to find a suitable fuse.

    Beer line cleaner bottle

I have been using the 5L florabest pressure sparayer Lidl had a few years ago. They really are great for beer line cleaning. I actually got the latest florabest 5L sprayer too,a bit different model but got JG fittings connected. The pump part of the sprayer is greased so the o-ring can slide...

    My boiler's leaking! Please help!

Can you pour the wort into another bucket/buckets? You can make a washer with a silicon backing sheet, just carefully cut to size as the silicone can tear quitre easily. Some suitably sized hole saws are good for making them or carefully with a knife or scissors.
