    Coopers Australian Pale Ale

Had an out of date can of this up the loft, so went to Wilko: 1 pack light DME (500g) and 1 pack Wilko ale yeast purchased, along with10l bottled water from Morrisons. Made up to 13l/14l or so. OG 1052 (26 degs), temp corrected to 1053. Pitched and closed up. Plan to make a hop tea with 20g...

    Physics clone MM

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping to persevere with my small batch AG - everything up until bottling is fine - the packaging problem I need to overcome. I think, for next time, I'm going for a 15l stout (in my 25l FV) and hope to bottle straight from there but not sure best way to ensure...

    Physics clone MM

Bottled this today. Didn't transfer to secondary FV in the end. Few issues. 1) syphon clogged up, even though the bit at the bottom was above the crud at the bottom of the FV. Then started sputtering beer out the end, and lots of big bubbles down the syphon tube and into the bottling bucket...

    Physics clone MM

Sample today: 1012 on hydrometer. 1035 on refractometer. Both calibrated prior to use, but to have +.020 points of difference is disconcerting. Now I got absolutely no clue as to this beer's ABV, but definitely not more than 7%... Lesson learned: use hydrometer for OG. Tasted absolutely...

Afternoon. Been away for a long time. I've been building my career, bought a house and drifted majorly from brewing. When I bought the house, I thought I'd get back into it for small batch AG. So, I got bit's and bob's from Malt Miller, including this 1 gallon kit in 2020. Needless to say...

    Woodfordes Headcracker

Edit 14/07: that's it bottled. 23 pints. Works out about 92p a pint. FG was 1013, so 6.4%abv. Had a wee taster and, although flat and warm, it had a nice taste to it, whilst the afterburn was definitely noticeable, though not in anyway unpleasant. 92p for a good, strong tasting...

    Coopers Pilsner

This is my Pilsner, poured straight from the fridge just there. Tastes really good.

    Woodfordes Headcracker

Put this on last night. I wasn't thinking straight, took a sample and forgot to write it down. :( I'm sure I got 1060..... Anywho, it'll be two weeks in FV before getting bottled.

    Coopers Pilsner

THat's it bottled. 33 pints. Total outlay for ingredients, inc water, was £23. Therefore, works out at around 70p per pint. Still cheaper than any pub pint. :D Edit: 04/03/2014 - moved downstairs to the cooler cupboard in the kitchen after two weeks in the warm. Taste test booked in...

    Coopers Pilsner

Aye, No worries mate! It's getting bottled on Saturday, regardless. That'll be almost 3 weeks! It'll not get touched until middle of May..... Well, one hopes! :D

    Coopers Pilsner

I can't "lager" mate, don't have the equipment or the room for it. I'm not expecting it to be great, but as long as it's drinkable, looks and (vaguely) tastes like pilsner and gets me ****** now and then, then I'll be a happy wee chappy! :drink:

    Coopers Pilsner

Just took a sample from the FV Cloudy, but don't care about that. It'll clear up a bit in the bottle. NO off flavours or smells. :thumb: Put the hydrometer in. Came back at 1006. :D

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Be aware of the infamous '1020' sticking point. My FG on the Wherry was 1010 as can be seen here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=43016

    Coopers Pilsner

After reading the instructions and not wanting my pilsner too "thin", I actually made it up with: 500g hopped light spraymalt 400g dextrose (instructions call for 300g) 1tsp yeast nutrient - yeast pitched at 21degs brewed to 20l to try and achieve higher %ABV OG 1042 If I get 4.5% after...

    Coopers Pilsner

Just ordered one of these and hope to get it on the go this week. Coopers Pilsner Kit 1kg Brewing Sugar 500g Hopped Light Spraymalt 20l Tesco bottled spring water (25p stuff) Will brew to 21/22l, hoping for around 5-5.5% ABV

    Coopers European Lager Review

Is it likely you'll need more yeast?

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

I did a Wherry back in August, as seen here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=43016 Took 4 pints to a small soirée last night, and wished I'd taken 6. Lovely pint and even the 2 B*d drinkers admitted that it was a cracking beer.

    You wanna with that?!

First kit beer - a few questions

It'll throw sediment. Careful whilst pouring the finished product (unless you like cloudy beer) The carbonation is a result of the secondary fermentation. Over-prime and you run the risk of exploding bottles.... Garage is ideal for conditioning your beer. I leave mine in the spare room for two...

    Cheaper alternatives to Star San

I use 3ml of Star San per brew. I suck it up with a syringe, then squirt it into a 2l bottle of still water. I've only done 3 brews in total, but it cleans all my equipment (FV, Krausen Coller, Lid, Tap and socket; Spoon; 40 bottles and caps; bottling wand; funnel and measuring spoons) and...
