How to Take Samples and Check Gravity?

Get yourself a 100mm syringe. So easy just drop the end of the tube in (you dont even need to fully lift the lid off the fermenter) fill the syringe and empty into your hydrometer trial jar :). http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009LEEOVW/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    STC 1000 Probe For HLT

Hi Everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my brewing equipment starting with a HLT. I'm hoping to hook an STC-1000 (30a) to my buffalo boiler to use as a HLT. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350841056022?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I think i've seen some stainless...

I'll let you know if any bottles explode :S but it all seems ok so far! Remember beer kit enhancer is half DME so less fermentables. Also as I didn't note it down I could well be mistaken as the beer seems good and not overly fizzy! Oh well lesson for next time is be more careful and take not of...

Well I used this: http://www.brewersfriend.com/beer-priming-calculator/ I have to say I thought it seemed a lot at the time but the beer has turned out great no more fizzy than commercial ones! They say 3.3 to 4.5... Yes I had a bit more than 23L closer to 24L probably.

Yeah give it a try! I popped mine in the freezer for a little while because I'm impatient  haha. It was lovely though! Carbonation was spot on! Going to give the bottles the full 2 weeks to carb up in the fermentation fridge still though. I ended up using around 320g of beerkit enhancer...

The camera has darkened it a little but I was also surprised about the darkness! Especially as my boiler didn't really take off very well and cut out several times. As you can see from the pictures in the mash it looks very pale there doesn't it.

    Help with Buffallo boiler

Mine started cutting out on the 2nd brew. After taping the thermal cutout it did another 2 successfully but the 5th one its been playing up again. I've now tapped the thermostat out of the way too so in theory this should enable it to hold a rolling boil without any problems (hopefully!!).

Try a wyeast smack pack :). You can get the same strains as white labs yeasts and no hassle involved.

Yes it did! To be fair it smelled nothing like franziskaner or erdinger? these are the only ones I'm familiar with atm and I've had 1 or 2 weihenstephaner but don't remember those smelling quite like this either. Not necessarily a bad thing though of course :). Lol can't wait to try one. Will...

Finished fermenting at 1.010. Planning on bottling this Sunday. Should I keep the temp at 20? Or drop it for a few days? Edit: I juts searched and read to drop the temp to 15c so ill do that :)

All Grain BIAB Beginner - need some help!

Hi Keith, Do you use any brewing software? If you created your recipes on there it will calculate the IBU value for it. I sometimes check depending what beer i'm looking to brew for the typical IBU values for that style of beer. If you know what commercial beers you like the bitterness of you...
