    What did you brew today?

    brewed a smoked blonde ale today.....10lts: 70% lager malt 30% raunch malt. challanger hops at the start of boil to about 22 ibus. dumped it onto yeast cake from last weeks blonde ale: mj's m54 californian lager yeast. :)

    Whats the recmonded amount i should use percentage wise in an oatmeal stout? I heard somewhere about getting a stuck mash if you use too many. I've used them before in dark milds but only in small quanities.....

    personally prefer pellets..that's what i generally stick to using as you don't loose so much wort, that's what i find anyway :)

    yeah something deceptively strong. perhaps a strong golden ale bulked up with sugar. perhaps IBUs of around 30 (not too bitter for his young, unexperienced taste buds)

    might be best to go down the extract route, won't be cheap to make but cheaper than buying it. I did two extract lager brews over winter...I used a combination of extra light extract (dme) and pale malt extract. You could use all extra light extract (dme) to say around the 8% mark then add sugar...

    I've used lager malt for an IPA which turned out very nice, hoping to get going with a session IPA soon. i'll probs used marris otter for that though :whistle:

    tried the golden ale last night, same again :thumb: sulphur ish taste gone. lovely hoppy smooth session beer at 3.6%. used cascade and chinook. :thumb:

    well to my complete surprise after cracking into the dark mild after only 11 days in the barrel its very nice, sulphur ish taste has completely gone and its very morrish RESULT!!! WELL CHUFFED. will try the golden ale soon to see how its coming along :thumb::thumb::thumb::drink::drink::drink:

    bottled one and barrelled the other yest, i know they need time to mature but there is a similar taste in both beers which i'm a bit unsure about more so in the 30 min boil. it was a good experiment but i don't think i'll be doing it again... back to 60 min boil :thumb:

    sounds good Ajhutch, what was the beer like... any off flavours? be interesting to see what the 30 min boil beer is like... i did another brew yesterday 10 lts golden ale with a 45 min boil... will report back :thumb:
