    Beaverdale Rojo Tinto

I did this last year. It definitely needed at least 1 month in the bottle to mature but it was a nice Tempranillo. Had positive comments from visitors and was polished off during a family gathering. :thumb: I have since fermented Beaverdale Merlot and Pinot Noir so as a brand it's persuaded me...

Cider not fermenting two weeks in!

Your gravity has been dropping so your yeast is doing its job, from 1.050 to 1.003 means the yeast MUST be happily doing there job! The lack of bubbles in an air lock is not a sign that there's a problem with fermentation, the CO2 is just finding another way out. Buckets in particular don't seal...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

I threw on my second batch of this (I've gone for 1kg of soft brown sugar this time) on Sunday and until this morning it looked mostly mostly dormant. Then tonight coming in from work I noticed an inch+ of krausen. This is at a steady 20 deg sitting on the wood floor underneath the hot water...

Do you find that your friends dont give a hoot that you brew

I find lots of friends are interested in it as an amusing story. The idea of having 80 pints brewing in the back of the kitchen (plus the wine...) seems to amuse them. Less are interested in the fact it may taste nice, and only two are interested in actually doing it. Most are actually real ale...

    Flat bottled beer

This how I did it. All bottles were primed, none were missed. Two weeks in the warm followed by two days in the fridge. Flat as a pancake  I didn't crash cool, both FVs are in the pantry so sit at 20ish degrees. There wasn't a great deal of sediment but there was some. Oh well, best test...

    Flat bottled beer

I recently brewed a Brewferm Triple and for the first time I racked to secondary to clear. This was motivated only by a need to free up my primary FV. After a few weeks I also needed my 'secondary' as myself and a work mate are on hedgerow apple tree watch and we have collectively found more...

Re: Solomon Grundy Rose (and SG medium sweet white kit)

I tried a second bottle last night. But I have to say I wasn't that impressed. It reminded me of when you've put too much cordial in a drink. SWMBO didn't like it either saying it tasted too strong. I can't decide if I was overly generous in my first tasting notes or if it has gotten worse. The...

    Coopers Original Stout Review

After reading pages and pages of positive reviews I thought I had better get a Cooper's Stout on! I have to admit one of my main motivations was the possibility that it might taste good quite young. As a beginner home brewer I do not yet have a stock pile of well matured beer and so a quick to...

Re: Solomon Grundy Rose (and SG medium sweet white kit)

I left it for 9 days in a DJ before popping the stabilizer in. Shaking a full DJ to de-gas was rather amusing... Left over night after adding the add back and Keisol. The following morning added the Chitosan and popped the DJ in the garage (concrete floor). Interesting to watch it drop bright...

    Sub 4% brew kits

Sub 4% brew kits. Do they exist? Without putting gallons of my brew on the stove to get rid of some of the alcohol if possible. After my last silly, new to the art, question I'm back with another. I'd generally refer to myself as a 'little and often' drinker (ignoring my first 'leaky' barrel of...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Too lovely it seems, as it's about to disappear completely :drink: I must investigate that leak in my pressure barrel! It has finally started to clear after a month in the barrel and is tasting very good. A lovely pale ale and a nice easy drinking pint. I was very impressed at the way it...

    Smaller (~20 pint) kits recommendations

Ha, so simple! (Or maybe obvious... )

    Not many damsons, ideas?

It's not a neighbour we, err, have too much to do with. I'll leave it there :nah: . I did lean a little more and I think I'll throw it all together with some unidentified small Damson/Bullace/Sloe pickings and see what the result tastes like.

Re: Solomon Grundy Rose (and SG medium sweet white kit)

I have the 6 bottle kit in a DJ right now, the wife does like a nice Rose. I short filled initially but it's still been out of the airlock (and up the wall!) on 2 consecutive days. I had decent airlock action within about 30 minutes of pitching the yeast. It looks very, errr, red in the DJ...

    Smaller (~20 pint) kits recommendations

Does anyone know of any well regarded kits which produce a smaller yield? I'd like a kit to finish off my current selection of bottles (the wife won't let me buy more!) We are having a housing moving and Xmas bash and would like a full stock of various styles. Any suggestions? I only know of...

    Not many damsons, ideas?

I've leaned as far over my neighbours fence as is polite ( ) and managed to acquire a measly 370g of damsons. I'd like to do something with them. I've already cheated and stuck 1kg of small bullace fruits in gin and vodka so I'd like to try fermenting these in to something. It's such...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

My Wherry did exactly this. I left it 9 days before taking a reading with minimal obvious signs of activity from about day 3 (and it was mostly done but could/should have been left longer). Tastes lovely.

    Wherry temperature in barrel

jimsx you're good to just wait, or take a cheeky taster right now... As another beginner I have right now a batch of Wherry in a barrel about half full. I started fermenting mine on the 27th, barrelled 9 days later and the other half of the barrel seems to have gotten lost :wha: I...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

As it was my first attempt I was a little impatient! (As I'm drinking it already I think that trend has continued.) But 1.044 to 1.010 leaves it bang on the advertised 4.5% so I didn't think it would go much lower. If I can brew more than I drink then I will start to leave them longer no doubt...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

I'm more a fan of a Northern Lass myself  Another positive review of the Wherry here. Mines not even anywhere near conditioned, hell it's still cloudy, but I can't keep my hands off it! Definitely a session ale, not to strong, no overwhelming flavours. OG 1.044, FG 1.010. Easily...
