FIrst Ever Homebrew Cider - Slightly Strange ALmond Taste?

Hello all, Following the events described in my previous posts a few months ago, I ended up making a strange turbo cider which has been sitting on my Fridge since February in 2L bottles. I am having some friends around this weekend and so I decided to give it a try! So I took the bottle...

    Too hot in the shed

I have two kegs of beer sitting in my garage/Kitchen conversion. It is about 24 degrees in there. The kegs have been conditionig there for about three to five months now. Is there anything I can do to help keep them in good condition?

Wilkos Tweaked Apple Cider Planned for Today - Thoughts?

Just a quick update. I ended up not using the kit and using about 3/4 of the yeast from the kit with 4l sping water and 5l apple juice. I checked this out the other day and there was a distinct thick foamy browny yellow head on the top and a strong smell of sulphur. I presume this is normal for...

Wilkos Tweaked Apple Cider Planned for Today - Thoughts?

Hello there, Thanks for the advice, I will go with 5 teabags! I think I will also do the 9L of Turbo soon, this recipe is just to experiment with the process and to get rid of the kit. I think I will save the pectolase and the nutrient for the second batch as I would quite like to get started...

First Time Brewing Cider (Wilkos Apple) - Anything I should know?

Hello all, Based on the advice in this thread I have planned on doing BOTH the turbo cider and the kit cider. But I have decided to tweak the kit cider. Here's a link to my plan: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?p=482410

Wilkos Tweaked Apple Cider Planned for Today - Thoughts?

Hello all, After a discussion in naother thread regarding how to improve a Wilkos Cider Kit, I have made uo my mind in a (Heavily tweaked) reciple using the CIder Kit as a basis. At a later stage, I will attempt a small (9l) batch of Turbo cider as well but for now I want to use up this kit...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Great to hear about all of the tweaks which you guys have made. My Wherry (Vanilla - No tweaks) is currently maturing in the PB, where it will stay for a couple of weeks. However, there was a little excess which I bottled and I am going to use that as a tester to degermine when the main batch is...

First Time Brewing Cider (Wilkos Apple) - Anything I should know?

Wilkos has served me well so far. There are two nearby. The one which I last visited was in Orpington and the section there is tiny and did not even have Garvin Ale Yeast, but the one in Bromley is larger and has more selection so i will check that one out tomorrow! The Pressure Barrel is a...

    Discountbrew.co.uk

As a manager for a small online business (Totally unrelated to homebrewing... we sell ducting and ventilation products) I find their attitude pretty surprising based upon the quotation above. I think what they are probably enthusiasts looking to make a quick bit of money. Selling on the...

First Time Brewing Cider (Wilkos Apple) - Anything I should know?

Thank you all for the replies! Ideally I would like to use this existing 10L tub purely because I have it and I have no other use for it! Would a wilkos wine yeast be suitable to use for cider? Where is a good place to pick up pectolase/nutrient? Is it worth keeping the wilkos kit just for an...

First Time Brewing Cider (Wilkos Apple) - Anything I should know?

Hmmm, well, I might experiment with making a mini batch of cider then rather than a full 21/23l.... I have an old plastic tub (That used to hold Protein Powder) sitting around doing nothing. It is basically identical to an FV other than not being clear and being without markings, but I have...

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Looks lovely! For my part, I have just transferred mine from the FV to the PB. FG 1.012 after three weeks, so I don;t think it would have got any better. I decided against using finings this time, so we'll see how it goes. The sample was lovely and clear and tasty!

First Time Brewing Cider (Wilkos Apple) - Anything I should know?

Hello there, After a successful second batch of homebrewed ale, I am looking to try my hand at a cider. I am hosting an event in the summer and would like a batch of cider ready for those who are not keen on ale. I had some Wilkos vouchers so while there I picked up a Wilkos Apple Cider kit...

    Fermentation time?

From what I have read a third week should have no negative effects. Longer than that the dead yeast from the cake at the bottom may start to contaminate the brew a little
