    Leibfraumilch..

The Mrs has decided to like this, and while its cheap enough, it'd be nice if we could have a go a brewing some, or at least something like it. Is it possible to"copy" a wine?

    Water into wine?

No idea if we're in a hard water area or not to be totally honest. Kettle scales up after a while. Still use it for wine making, beer making and cider making. No oddities have arisen yet..!

    Steriliser

Last lot, well, they got turfed in a tub of Milton solution with the baby bottles.

    Steriliser

Was about to post this myself. Keep it tightly stoppered or it will deteriorate. Pour it from container to container, swilling around and allow to dry, although it imparts no tastes, nasties, etc onto your brew!

Glass or plastic DJ for wine kits?

Glass DJ will be fine, just remove the airlock and cover the opening while shaking, then take your hand away to relieve the pressure. The airlock will allow pressure out anyway, so there are no advantages of using plastic other than they bounce..

    Cider brewing first attempt

Just to put a positive out there... I've made cider from Apples, and carton juice. I have to say that while they don't taste like the mass produced ranges available from the supermarket, they have all had their own unique flavours. We've had plain old apple cider, apple and raisin cider...

So, following on from both; Real Lemon Oooocha! and Ribena Cider I threw a third, and final (until Friday when I can get to the market for some more Nutrient) DJ, this time around an Orange alco-pop style drink, for the summer BBQ season. Around 5% - 6% hopefully. Ingredients: 6 Big...

    Real Lemon Oooocha!!

Threw an experimental DJ of the on last week, I'm hoping for an alco-pop style drink, for the summer BBQ season. Around 6% - 7% hopefully. Ingredients: 12 Unwaxed Lemons - Grate the rind, juice, and put the skins in the pot too! 3.2g of sugar per 100g, so as I used 1200g, that's a total of...

    Ribena Cider

Knocked a 1 gallon batch of this up earlier, as the bottle seems to have been in the cupboard for an age and a day, the kids don't drink it, so I thought I'd have a go at making something I can drink, while attempting to navigate a boat this June! Ingredients: 1 litre of Ribena Cordial - All...

    1gal Demijohns x10 - Scunthorpe - SOLD

Having a bit of a sort out, and I think 40 demijohns is a little excessive, I've not used more than 10 at a time yet so have plenty of spare for racking off. Therefore, I'm offering 10 for sale at £4 each, collected as they are fragile. They will be cleaned internally and externally this...

Good News for Beer drinkers !

Excellent news! Is there a way to reverse the pickling of my liver and kidneys though? Or a way to stop the deliciously fatty smoked bbq piling pounds on to my svelte **ahem** figure?

    The other halves

Well, at the moment I've only had one complaint. Headaches.. I've had no complaints over the additional kitchen units I installed in the dining room along with built in fridge freezer and under counter freezer for the 40 demijohns, 2 buckets, 60 wine bottles and 45 beer bottles though. The...

The White Grape Juice shortage thread .

California has been "in" drought for 3 years, although they did get some rain a week or two ago. France was too wet apparently, and the white grapes suffered. The red not so much, something to do with being picked later. Its still out there, readily available, just that some retailers...

    Carbonation Query

Bombs hmmmm..I've use for a few bombs.. Ahem hem ahem sorry, daydreaming. Yet to purchase a capper and caps, but will definitely give it a go. Thanks for the information regarding amounts per bottle, personally I use a "Calpol" spoon for all of my measurements, 2.5ml at one end and 5ml at the...

    Carbonation Query

Well, Christmas was a drunken one  Ended up bottling a couple more brews this week, some Jungle Juice (Umbongo), and some of the 8gal of Cider we made. The cider is nice, but smells a lot like wine. Think we ended up with around 8% ABV in the end, didn't really take any readings, just...

    Good morning everyone from grimsby

Grimsby? Well, I suppose some poor sod has to be, at least its mot Cleethorpes though! Originally from Barnetby, but moved the other side of Scunthorpe 5 years ago. Its quite hard water out here, but haven't troubled myself with any kind of filtering yet. Nice to have another from the area...
