What pump for a new 100 litre set up?

Min-mag pumps from The Homebrewbuilder are great. http://www.homebrewbuilder.co.uk/pumps.html They are magnetically coupled meaning there is no more messing about with voltage to control flow and they are temperature rated to 100+ degree C, food safe and come with 1/2" BSP fittings.

Brewery up-sizing so a couple of items FOR SALE.

Owing to up-sizing to semi-professional brewery equipment (18 gallon brew-length) I'm having to make room and sell some of my old ‘kit'. Prices are negotiable (within reason) and, as I don't drive, it would be preferable if the items could be picked-up from the Gosport, Hampshire, UK, area...

    A PID Question

Did a double-check with a second thermometer and the sensor was a couple of degrees out, adjusted the Offset and everything is sweet now. Thanks again chaps, I love this place (even in its' new guise....so-far).

    A PID Question

I don't have a Thermapen but I do have an electronic thermometer which I can use as a reference against the PT100 sensor. That'll be my job for the day on a dreary, drizzly Sunday. Thanks chaps.

    A PID Question

Thanks chastuck and aleman, I'll take a look at the instruction leaflet today for the Offset settings and give it a go. :thumb:

    A PID Question

Today I fired-up 'Big Berth' my 200L copper to check both elements where working and there where no leaks. I half-filled her with 100L of water and I set my N2006P PID to Manual Mode and 100% of the total heater power. I set my alarm settings to 100c so that I could switch one of the elements...

THE BEST ELEMENT FOR THE JOB

I will, indeed, boab42stout. I'll probably post a brewday thread on the forum for it.

THE BEST ELEMENT FOR THE JOB

I've got a pair of those in 'Big Bertha', my 200l pot (which I also got from Homebrewbuilder - MrLard). Did a test boil the other day and very pleased with them. Hope to be running them in 'anger' soon with an 18 gallon brew.

    Craft Beer or crafty labeling?

Ah I stand corrected. Maybe they used so few it just tasted like it was unhopped.

    Craft Beer or crafty labeling?

Quite a few years ago Fullers of London used to brew a 'mild' called Hock and (as far as I can remember) it was unhopped. I tried it once on a visit to Brighton, and wasn't all that impressed with it.

    Craft Beer or crafty labeling?

Yes indeed, read-through the bullshi*. All I know (and all my potential new customers need to know is)... "I brew good beer, me".

    Craft Beer or crafty labeling?

as bobsbeer says I also believe the word 'craft' has been highjacked by the ad-men just to increase the cost of the product to the consumer. And it can be used for anything .. for instance Marstons has introduced a 'craft' lager (Revisionist Craft Lager)...now that really IS...

An occasional brewery (a question about licensing)

Grays, I contacted Gosport Environmental Health first and submitted a form for registering with them as a place for producing beer as I thought that would be the best thing to do. I was telephoned by a very helpful lady who was in-charge of the department and she said that as I was making beer...

    The Draymans' Brewery Build

I'm not fully eau-fait as to the reasons why my sparkie suggested it or the technical reasons behind it, however I do know that at my previous house, if I ran both 2.75Kw kettle elements in the same double socket, by the end of the boil the plugs would be very hot to the touch and the pins...

    The Draymans' Brewery Build

kev, My electrician buddy installed a ringmain in the brewery with eight double sockets. The brewery is in a lean-to attached to the house and the ringmain goes directly back to the main house fuse box. When I was using two 2.75Kw kettle elements in the 100L copper I just ensured they where...

    The Draymans' Brewery Build

Another update. Owing to the lack of funds I decided against the all-singing-all-dancing control panel A-La 'Electric Brewery'. I looked at what I currently had (an STC-1000 with solar pump for recirculating the HLT) and what I needed (an easy way to control two 3Kw elements in the boil) and...

An occasional brewery (a question about licensing)

I have contacted our local council asking if I can run a small-scale (18 gal) brewery from my terraced house and, basically, they said it was fine as long as I don't expand or cause noise-and-nuisance. I had a chat on the 'phone with a chap at Gosport Borough Council and he said that as long as...

    The Draymans' Brewery Build

I used a foil-backed foam camping mat wrapped around the pots first (silver-side towards the pot) then wrapped loft insulation foil from B & Q around the outside and it was all taped together using self-adhesive aluminium heat reflective tape like this...
