    Brewferm Abbey

Just a quick question to ask as I have had a Brewferm Abbey on the go for three weeks now and is sticking at 1.022, has been like that since Monday when I tested it and gave it a gentle stir to rouse the yeast. Tested it again yesterday and still the same. I have two options: do I chuck...

Brew #2 Wilko Dark Velvet Stout

I would say that 400g of treacle is a lot to add (unless you really like the taste of treacle) as it takes an age to mellow out, although the cocoa may help offset that a bit.

    Coopers Australian Lager Review

Got this bottled up yesterday with 1tsp of caster sugar in each 500ml bottle, after being in the FV for 15 days and the FG had reached 1010 which hopefully gives me 5%. Had a sip from the sample jar and didn't taste half bad. Just have to wait and see now. :drink:

    La Chouffe

Thanks for that. To be fair even if its nothing like it in taste I will probably give the Grand Cru a go as it does look like a great beer.

    summer brew.

If you are a kit brewer look at the Coopers kits as these being Australian in manufacture are much more tolerant of higher fermentation temps ;)

    La Chouffe

Would anyone know which of the Brewferm kits is nearest to the commercial brew La Chouffe? :-D Any hints much appreciated.

    Coopers Australian Lager Review

Got this one on the go yesterday 10th May and made up to 20l litres with 1kg of light spraymalt and a can of golden syrup, re-hydrated the yeast before pitching and already bubbling great in the FV this morning after a good 12 hours. OG was around 1048, so should be a decent strength if it...

Dark ale or Stout kit recommendations

Try the Coopers original stout, dead easy to brew, quick to condition and tastes great too. ;-)

    Coopers Original Stout Review

This kit has become my routine beer of choice to have in stock at all times. As it brews and conditions really quickly with great result. Usually brewed to 20 litres with 1kg of medium spraymalt and 250g of light brown sugar, although the one I have in the FV at the moment was made up the same...

    Leaking Tap

Have you checked you have turned it off too far, sometimes that makes them leak.

    First Timer

Welcome, and don't worry, the kits are not as tricky as you might think :D

    Bubbling over fv

The yeast in most of those Coopers kits does seem to 'go mental' so to speak during the ferment. You should try the one supplied with the original stout, that does make a mess :D

Hydrometer Readings higher than expected :s

    Leave it at 21c. :thumb:

Hydrometer Readings higher than expected :s

To stir it, just go in slow circular motions and avoid splashing/foaming and all should be fine. Don't worry too much about stirring up the sediment as that will settle back out again. :thumb:

    Coopers Original Stout Review

Had a quick pint of these on NYE after only about 3.5 weeks in the barrel. Fantastic head, super smooth and hints of coffess in the taste. Going to try to save this one for a bit

    Brewferm, Abdij review

As planned I got this kit on the go Lunchtime yesterday, with 500g of light muscavado sugar, re-hydrated the yeast before pitching and slung an aquarium heater into the FV set to 21c. FV is sitting on the cold stone kitchen floor and has already kicked off fermentation overnight with a decent...

    Brewferm, Abdij review

Had one of these kits hanging around in the kitchen cupboard for about two months now, so decided to get this on the go tomorrow. Going to brew this with 500g of light brown muscavado :thumb:
