    Coopers Irish Stout Review

Looking like a nice pint stew! Well done, how's the taste? I batch primed and bottle 12 pints and legged the rest, not tried a bottled but had a few tasters from the keg - I like it, and the first few from the keg looked perfect, just like a guiness with the cloudy waves that slowly settled to...

    first time kegging

Thanks for your replies and help Bob, it is a standard keg with a tap at the bottom Gav, does this make a difference? I have made the big step of kegging my first ever stout. I primed with 80g of sugar and then gave it a quick burst of CO2, then vented the top a little, hopefully this will be...

    first time kegging

Thanks very much for the advice Bob, I have just been playing around with water in the keg and it seems you only get a pint or two before needing to re-gas is this right, or am I not pressurising it enough to start with? Thanks for the Vaseline tip, I'll be sure to do that. Cheers

    first time kegging

I am just about to keg my coopers stout, I have never used any keg before (always bottled). I brewed it with 100g black treacle and 1 kg of DME; I plan to batch prime the keg with 80g of sugar. My question is this, once I have primed and loaded the keg do I need to pressurise it with the S30...

    Brew Belt Temp?

try using a electric timer unit so it switches on and off every 20 mins or so and then adjust until you get the temp you need.

    Coopers Irish Stout Review

Just started this kit tonight as my first stout. I used 1kg medium spraymalt, 500g demerara sugar and 100g of black treacle. Had a OG 1042, I'm hoping to batch prime this with 100g of sugar and serve from the keg at Christmas. Hope it turns out ok  Trev 24 hrs on and it is puffing like...

    Bulldog, Hammer of Thor

Stuart, Thanks for the advice about Wilko's pilsner, I will give it ago next (maybe this week). I'm not that bothered about the abv strength as long as its a nice pint. I'm hoping my HoT will get better for Christmas - its still only been in the bottle for just under 3 weeks. Let me know your...

    Bulldog, Hammer of Thor

This has been in the bottle now for just over 2 weeks. About 10 days in the warm and then moved to the garage still quite mild at 16-19c. Just opened my first bottle not that fizzy yet but I guess it's still a bit early? It has cleared well but is quite dark in colour for a lager although not...

Hey all, help us out why don't ya!

Welcome Elton, I'm sure you will enjoy your new found hobby :D I am new myself have done a couple of WoW wines and a hammer of Thor lager kit and a Woodforde wherry, all still fairly young but the little tasters I've had seem promising. My limited experience would advice to buy a good...

    Vinclasse Rioja (Red Wine Kit)

Well, the kit was definitely very easy to make up, although being my first red wine kit the concentrate did seem a little bit thin (I expected more of a treacle consistency?). It has been a very slow, almost dormant, fermentation so far. However, after re-reading the instructions it does state...

    Temperature

Should we stay above a minimum temp also? My usual brewing place (the spare bedroom) is sitting at about 17c at the moment is this too low? Trev

    Vinclasse Rioja (Red Wine Kit)

I have done a few beer brews but this is my first wine (after a WoW) I Visited my LHBS last week to purchase a beaverdale kit and the shop owner told me to try one of his 'own kits' (all labelled with his shop name) as he promised they will be good and offered a refund if I was disappointed...

    Bulldog, Hammer of Thor

I have just taken another gravity reading and it is the same as it was on Sunday 1.008 (5.8%) There were no sign of fermentation so I have just bottled this lager, with one carbonation drop in each bottle. The little taster I have had taste very pleasant; maybe a little sharp, but I'm sure this...

    Bulldog, Hammer of Thor

Ok, airlock has stopped bubbling totally now but still got slight pressure on the lid of the fv, although there is no sign of fermenting from airlock or bubbles rising to the surface of the wart. The 'hammer of Thor' has been in the fv for 8 days now at about 20 degrees C. I took a gravity...

    Bulldog, Hammer of Thor

Well I have had my 'Hammer of Thor' going for a little under a week now (started last Saturday). Followed the instructions as is and had an OG of 1.052 and it started quite quickly, after 2 days the bubbles in the airlock slowed right down. Put the hops bag into the FV on Wednesday evening and...

    Youngs pear cider

Thanks very much for your reply Mutley; I will leave in the bottles in the cool garage for a while and see how it progresses! I was looking at the original WOW to try next actually, hoping to make a wine for the Christmas period (I'm not too late am I?). I have read a few of the threads on here...

    Youngs pear cider

I have just tasted my attempt at this cider (my first ever brew), I bottled it about 3 weeks ago after 10 days in the fv. The taste, at present is OK at best - its very fizzy and tastes very thin and almost watery. My questions are: 1. What did I do wrong? 2. Will the taste improve in a few...

New to brewing but having fun

Hi all, I am new to the home-brewing hobby and I have recently bottled (and am waiting to taste) my first brew, a cider which came with the kit; youngs pear cider. I have also got the Bulldog 'Hammer of Thor' lager ready to start and was wondering if anyone has already given it a go and could...
