+1 on wasting your first tank (and the second in my case) through leaks etc.... On my third tank now and I made sure ALL joints etc are gas tight. Good move getting it though...

    Strike temperature question

Afternoon chaps..... Thanks for all your replies, I have read them all and what strikes me is that we have all got our own different ways to a common theme- we all usually get good beer at the end. I think @JapanBrew makes sense for my set up; I've just had another early morning brewup...

Hello mate, ive only speed read all the replies to your post- but, since getting a brew fridge and a stainless fermenter (bl++dy big stock pot and lid) and using starsan ive had NO infections. I used to use plastic FV with no temp control......had plenty of ruined brews back in early 2000's...

    Strike temperature question

Evening brewers.... Since upgrading my AG system to a 2 pump HERMS system i have been following the "Old Farts Brewery" (Jim Payne) system and adding my freshly milled grain very very slowly and stirring whilst doing so. My past couple of brews have turned out fine. The last brew, I...

Back to basics after a few poor brews

Biggest improvement was modifying my system to a HERMS system after watching the old farts brewery on you tube.....I appreciate not everyone can do that, but for me its amazing and the efficiency is around 80-85 %.

    More Advanced Water Treatment

Evening .... Going to use east London tap water for a light beer/lager type thingy- anyway I've tested it and its coming out at 248ppm CaCo3. I want to remove 230ppm per liter. I have 81% phosphoric acid to use. Am I right that each 0.14ml of the acid removes 100ppm of CaCo3 per liter of water...

    The crossmyloof brewery yeast

Used their English ale yeast on a St Peter's golden ale kit (brewed for me brother) and it took off really well with a good krausen - no complaints so far.....have to wait to see what the flavours like...

Advice on silicon sealant / heat mat

hello mate, just on a side note; i dont use a bubbler or blow off tube at all in my ferm fridge- my FV is a SS 35l (ish) pot and lid. I pitch the yeast (usually reused) and leave it untouched for 2 weeks before i look at it. Ive done many, many AG brews now and not had a problem at all......just...
