American Pale Ale looks "strange" in FV

It's film like, almost like an oil slick on water, you can see it on the photo and that's probably about the closest thing I can compare it to. I've gently moved the top layer and it seems as though it is only on the very surface as the rest looks clear.

American Pale Ale looks "strange" in FV

Hi all I've got an American Pale Ale which I've made using an extract kit in the FV just now. It's been in there for about 10 days and the hydrometer readings are still going down but the top looks completely different from the other brews I've done (only 2!) so no idea if anything's wrong or...

First brew suddenly gone wrong in bottle...

Not studying up before hand I wasn't keeping track of temperature. It's been stored in an internal room with no sunlight so does sound like an issue with the yeast from what you're saying. Bugger. Ah well, on to the next, means I don't have to buy more bottles at least!!!

    Extract brewing advice

Thanks for all the replies guys, really looking forward to trying the extract method. AG may be an ideal end point, but space is an issue as well so is something to build up to I reckon.

    Extract brewing advice

Brilliant, thanks for the replies! Was thinking that a 15-20 litre pot may have been the minimum option so guess that's the next step. Now just to decide what I fancy making and drinking :hmm:

    Extract brewing advice

Hi all I'm very new to the homebrew experience having just completed and started drinking a Coopers Canadian lager kit, which after bottle conditioning for 4 weeks is starting to taste not too bad. However I'm looking to try an extract beer kit and want some advice on whether I'll need to buy...

    Hi there

HI all Pretty much a complete novice at this brewing lark! Got given a Coopers Canadian Lager kit for Xmas last year and eventually got around to making it, after which I found this forum which would have made life a lot easier! The results are pretty average but have been enough to pique my...
