    Challenger SMaSH

I have finally taken the plunge and moved from kit brewing to all-grain. With it being the Bank Holiday weekend coming up, I've decided to get the first all-grain brew under my belt. I've gone simple in the hope there's less chance to balls it up. My "planned" brew: Original Gravity (OG)...

    Turbo Cider

I'm looking at starting off a turbo cider but I'm going to go for an MLF but just wondered shall I just put all 4.5L of the apple juice in a DJ and ferment it or would it be better to hold a litre back first as I've read before that Apple juice can start off quite ferocious when fermenting and...

    Fermenter Temperature

What would you say is the best way of determining what temperature the wort in your FV is at? Are those temperature strips reliable? Found ones on eBay which are apparently for fish tanks but I guess would work on a FV or is better to just spend more and invest in a digital temperature probe?

    Stuff on top of wine

I've no idea what this is on top of the wine. I've never had it before so I'm guessing it can't be good. Anyone help with telling me what it is?

    Wilko's Cabernet Sauvignon

Bought the 6 bottle kit in the sale, thought I'd at least give it a try. Only problem is that I thought it had died down fermenting so topped up to 4.5L and it's frothed up ridiculously and gone up the airlock. Cleaned the airlock out and popped it back in. Hopefully won't do it again, or taint...

Thinking of making a turbo cider...

I've been thinking about what my next brew could be. I've decided that I'll probably give making a cider a go given I've already made wine and the Fiery Ginger Beer already. My preference with cider though is that I like it with a little fruity flavour so I'm thinking of just fermenting out 4.5L...

    Yeast for cider

I'm thinking of doing a cider (3.5L apple juice and .5L of another fruit juice) and leaving it for summer as I have loads of spare beer and cider bottles. I was planning on using a sachet of champagne yeast but I'd only be doing a gallon. Would I just use the whole sachet for a gallon?

    Growing Hops

Meantime Brewing Company were giving out these Hops In A Box things for free. So you grow your own hops, only seems small though. Anyway, my question is, is it easy to grow your own hops? I'll probably have to do some proper reading up on it.

    De-labelling wine bottles

I've de-labelled a load of wine bottles but the majority of bottles still have the glue left on the bottle. What's the best, most effective way to get it off? I am trying to get rid of the glue on those where it isn't thick with oil and kitchen roll but it just isn't working on other bottles

The Range "make your own" White Wine

According to The Range website this kit, "brews a light, crisp and fruity, easy drinking, medium dry white table wine. This white wine features light apple and subtle floral notes, adding a pinch of citrus for a lingering finish. Why go to the shop to buy white wine for your friends, impress and...

    Bottling day

I've finally got round to bottling the Beaverdale Merlot kit I got for my birthday. I'm using a mixture of corking and screw top wine bottles. What I'm wondering is whether I need to do anything with the corks, ie. washing them before I cork the bottles? It's a new pack of corks which hasn't...

    Mash Tun

Would it be better to just buy a ready built mash tun or building my own? And, what would I need if I built my own? So far, it's a bucket, heating element, tap and that's all I can think of.

    First time brewing

Hi, Put my first ever brew on earlier. A 6 bottle Merlot kit I got given as a present. Only problem I think I'll have is that the instructions said that I'd need to keep the temperature as close to 20 degrees as possible and I don't know if I'll be able to. It's brewing in my utility room but...
