Sweet Orange Peel… how much to use?

Thanks for the replies and the advice. I’m looking forward to playing around with this brew and seeing how it comes out. My hopes are for a big hop hit with the sweet orange right there up front.

Sweet Orange Peel… how much to use?

Looking for some advice. I fancy brewing up a summer IPA with some really fresh flavours. I plan to use Azzaca and Citra hops and would like to use orange peel. I’ve read a few posts on various places and some are saying to use 1-1.5 ounce in the boil and others are saying to use it in...

DIY Hop back- Anyone used one?

I’ve never used adjuncts like elderflower before but I have seen a recipe that uses spruce tips so it will be interesting to use the hop back for that and see how it turns out.

DIY Hop back- Anyone used one?

Happy New Year everyone! I am a self confessed hop head and love my hoppy brews. Following a bit of research into Hop backs, I tried my hand at putting one together with the end result in the pictures below. Does anyone have experience using a hop back? Do you feel it improves the hop...

    Adding to a wilko kit

Funny enough the stout was one of the kits I was considering and I have some treacle, and brown sugar in the cupboard. I have some bramling cross hops that I want to try as well that might go well in a stout with the dark fruits kind of flavour.

    Adding to a wilko kit

Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure what kit to go with but I fancy doing something with either the bitter or the stout. I have BeerSmith so I could play about with some ingredients and see what I come up with.

    Adding to a wilko kit

Evening folks, I am thinking of ways to use up some leftover grains and hops I have and following on from new year and Xmas, I don’t want to part with a lot of money. I thought about using a wilko kit as a base and building around that. What’s your thoughts? Think it will...

How do I add oatmeal to my stout kit?

From my experience it cleared relatively quickly. I had no problem but to be honest have you tried shining a torch through a stout?

How do I add oatmeal to my stout kit?

I did a smoked oatmeal stout last month and used asda own porridge oats (rolled oats). Chuck around 200-250g in a pot of water round about 67°c although don't worry too much about being a couple degrees out. Leave it for half an hour to 45 mins and then bring to the boil, remove from heat and...

    Spices..when to add them

I can't see how fermentation would strip out the flavour or aroma of the spice. With adjuncts like honey and syrup etc it hits the flavour because the sugars end up yeast food. Brew is in the FV now anyway and the spices are pungent at the moment so maybe wouldn't be a bad thing for them to...

I am brewing a beer that will use spices. Shold I add them around about the 15 min mark in the boil or at flame out? Any advice please? Cheers!

    American oak chips

Anyone able to recommend a stockist for American oak chips? Hoping to use them in a beer next month and the malt miller who I usually buy from doesn't seem to stock them.

    Need hop expertise please

Thanks for the advice everyone. T-minus 1 hour til brewday and I will go for bramling x only. Two additions for bitter in and flavour. I think the flavours from the spice, pumpkin and maple would be a bit spoiled with too much flavour and aroma from the hops. Cheers!

    Need hop expertise please

I am brewing a maple pumkin ale tomorrow and was advised by a member on the forum to use bramling cross hops as they give of a fruits of the forest esque flavour and aroma. I have a handful of other hops in the freezer and would like your opinion please on which of the following options to...
