    Plastic Firkin Casks

I'm looking to buy a couple of pub style plastic firkin casks with shives and keystones. I'm either really bad at Googling or these appear to be difficult to find! Anyone bought one recently? If so, from where? Thanks

I’m in the market for some new scales after my old ones took a tumble. Interested to know what you guys use or recommend for your grain scales and also for your hops and water adjuncts. Cheers 🍺

    Gas or electric efficiency

Hi all, been a while since I was on the forum. I have an interesting question, half to do with brewing equipment but I suppose the other half is physics/thermodynamics! I’m planning on scaling up the brewery just now however I am limited to the amount of current I can draw so the maximum...

    Gloopy apple juice

Seasoned amateur at the beer however I have never made cider from scratch before. Last week I crushed some apples (we've an abundance) and pressed them just to sample the juice. PH was really low (3.something from memory) and the juice was VERY gloopy! Do you cider makers use this consistency of...

    Powell Brewing

Anyone had recent experience of dealing with Powell Brewing? I've sent a few email enquiries and haven't had any replies and they don't seem recently active on social media. Giving them a call was next I suppose! I see a few people have posted that they have some Powell equipment, how would you...

    BIABasket

The UK single vessel market seems to be much more directed to the likes of Grainfather and HopCat style and doesn't seem to have the variety of BIABasket solutions that the US and Australia does. The type of solutions that Clawhammer (expensive) and Cheekypeak supply. They are appealing as the...

    Heat-box for Toolshed Brewery

Hi all, My home brewery is in my tool shed and from spring to autumn, my brewbelt works a treat on my FV. Also, after I bottle up, I just lay the brewbelt over the bottles for the first week and cover with some tinfoil to keep them at a steady temp and that has also worked fine. During the...

Has the cold killed my beer?

Had a brew-day on Sunday, a recipe that I have used before using DME, and a few different hops (so I know it works!). My brewery is in the garage however even with my brew-belt on and the FV wrapped up, due to the cold weather, it cooled to 8C so after 24 hrs, nothing had happened (obviously)...

    Honey

I am going to add honey to my next brew and was wondering if you guys have any tips about quality of honey I should use in a brew? i.e. If it's just for the honey flavour, would ASDA smart price honey at 22.1p/100g be as good as manuka honey at £2.64/100g? Obviously would be good to keep the...

    Fermenting in a demijohn/carboy/Better Bottle

Hi All, Being quite new to home-brewing, I'm reading "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" (which i'm finding a great read and well worth the buy) and in it, the guy brews in a glass carboy from start until bottling. I quite like this idea, not only for the aesthetically pleasing site of a...

Help with the next shaky (stupid?) step for a novice

After reporting to you all in my introduction post the rip-roaring success of my first ever homebrew experience (Brupak's Brubox London Bitter) I am keeping to my word and am attempting to recreate this success using a similar (refill) for the Brubox - the Scottish 80/-. It’s in the bottle and...

    Liquid Malt Extract

There may be a very simple explanation here however as a new brewer I am confused about the different sizes of cans that liquid malt extract comes in. The ones supplied by brupak come in 1.5kg tins and are for brewing approximately 20 pints of beer. Coopers are 1.7kg and are for 40 pints and...

    Brupak, now what?

As some of you may have read my first post, you'll know i'm a complete novice. I have 1 Brupak (London Bitter) under my collar (or should I say down my neck) and a Brupak refill (Scottish 80 Shilling) in progress. This has gone the way of wetting my appetite for brewing and has been ideal for my...
