    Extract APA -- Dark wort

Ok, just to finish this thread off. I tried adding more yeast but it still didn't help much and after leaving it for quite a number of weeks it was still at 1.020 so I decided it was enough. I put it into a 5L mini-keg and had the first taste of it last night. Pretty good actually, very dark and...

    Where is the weekend chat?

Wasn't there a "chat" system installed here? It was constantly "loading" and didn't work of course. Has it still not been fixed?

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Have you tried a sample yet? After one week and mine is still going strong, but the smell is really not nice. It's like someone has drank too many alcopops and vomitted into my DJ! The other half is not impressed so far.

    TC with ale yeast

Just had a crazy thought, what about using a Saison yeast for a TC. Anyone tried it? It might give some interesting spicy notes that could go well with the apple.

    Critique my Pineapple Saison Recipe

 Sounds like a great way to ruin a nice beer. Why not just put it into 330ml bottles rather than 500ml, or drink from a smaller glass?

    Greetings from Australia

Yeah Champagne yeast will work much better than bread yeast, and you'll have lovely effervescent fizz.

    Brewpi Fermenting Fridge

Can the brewpi take a gravity reading? Just thinking that if you are going to control the temp remotely you might want to know this before performing a cold crash for example, or just to monitor the fermentation progress.

Mine also started out very dark, but after three days it is now much lighter, closer to a rose.

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I see your point, but I wasn't thinking of making drastic changes like cutting the additions by half. Although I don't think it would matter so much with the pectolase as the only danger is that it doesn't clear, but for the yeast of course it might be more tricky. My only concern is that over...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Started my first WOW variant this week, RGJ + AJ actually. I went by the book for all additions but noticed after adding the pectolase that the label suggested 1-2tsp per 5 gal, so 1 tsp in 1 gal seems like a lot. Should I have used less or is there a good reason for using that much? The juices...

Just cant work out a Hyd

Try turning the flash off next time. Hydrometers are really dead simple to use. Put a sample in the trial jar, spin the hydro, get a reading, record the result and compare it to what you had before. Not exactly rocket science. Try looking at this or just googling around. Btw, when people say...

    Cherry hefe

I just had a look through the book "Extreme brewing" and for 18.9L brews it suggests 4.5kg for sour or 3.6kg for sweet cherry, but halve that if using puréed fruit. Then the advice is to add to the kettle right after the boil but leave it to steep for 20 min at 71-77*C before chilling the wort...

    Cherry hefe

Sounds like an interesting brew. How much cherry are you planning to put in?

    Mead anyone?

Ah, now it makes sense! I made an apple plus red berries cider a few weeks ago and it came out very watery (I made the mistake of using a 40% red berry juice drink) so I added some honey in the hope of adding a little body to it. Are the Welsh thrifty by nature too perhaps?

I meant why has it been fermenting for two years?

    need an easy belgium recipe

I've been looking for some belgian recipes recently too, so I'm all ears here. I found one that caught my eye, I think it might have been posted by phettebs, so may also be the one you are thinking of: AG Dark Strong Belgian Original Gravity (OG): 1.089 (°P): 21.3 Final Gravity (FG)...

Very slow lager what should be next move?

It seems that there are a few things that you could improve, as other members have suggested, particularly regarding the temp at the beginning of the ferment. So I'd say you shouldn't give up on lager just yet, give it another go and impliment some improvements. I did my first lager a few...

    Efficiencies

So far I've tried a few online recipe creators and programs like BrewMate which are very easy to use. Like yourself I was curious if I could calculate the colour, liquid volumes, temps, bittering, etc myself. I did a partial mash recipe a few months ago where I wanted to split the DME additions...
