    What did you brew today?

Today I brewed a milk stout. First brew in nearly 4 years. I forgot how my grainfather worked so it took twice as long as it should have.

GeterBrewed Single Hop Citra Mash Kit

I've found them to be a bit mixed too but nothing bad to complain about really. No instructions on my biab starter malt kit which was easily rectified and last month I bought the Irish craft lager mash kit for my brother in law and they sent enough for 2 brews!

Newbie errors and extent of their effect

My second biab brew had everything go wrong, I mashed with half my grain so had to mash in again and had a 5 hour mash! I had a boil over, my bag fell back into the boiler and went everywhere then I hurt my back lifting the fermenter.....turned out to be a lovely smooth and strong stout that...

Have a go at simple AG

Earlier on in this thread I did my first AG which I gave to my brother for his 39th birthday, it was the best I'd made and he loved it. Last week was his 40th so he got 40 bottles of IPA this year. After that first one there was no going back. Even though I was immobile for several months...

    Centennial Green Bullet Pale Ale

Let us know how this one turns out. I had a read of your blog and we've got the same name and like doing the same thing - brewing, growing chillis and making curries!

First Gold Yorkshire Bitter - BIAB with Peco boiler

I've got one of those and a false bottom but have always used a hop spider. Might just chuck them in next time.

First Gold Yorkshire Bitter - BIAB with Peco boiler

Do you just put the hops in whole? Have you got a false bottom and/or a hop filter?

HBC Apollo Mashkit - BIAB with Peco boiler

Time isn't much of an issue as I work from home and I'm up early with kids so I can get it done with minimal effort and do the time intensive stuff around lunch time. It also means bottling time is a bit reduced. Don't get me wrong, I'm still planning on doing 20L batches too as I have 2...

Have a go at simple AG

Update on how this went. I bottled 19 bottles and kept one for me, 18 for Mark. I tasted mine after a Week or so, carbonated and cleared well, nice dry finish that I was after but bitterness was short lived on the palette but nice taste. I visited him a few weeks later and he poured me...

HBC Apollo Mashkit - BIAB with Peco boiler

I've got the same setup and have done a few brews with it some far, 2 from geterbrewed, 2 from Shane and one of my own. I have 3 kits from Shane that I will do as soon as I've recovered from a broken foot. I've tried the dunk sparge like you did and tried resting bag on a sieve and pouring...

    First attempt at bottling

How I do mine.... Dissolve sugar required in a pan with a little water, cool and pour into bottling bucket. Siphon beer from FV into bottling bucket. Make sure tap is OFF. Get iPad setup near sink and put a film on. Rinse bottles (I wash them after use and store in garage) and place on...

    Going away!

I did a wherry on New Years eve and didn't bottle it until February.

Have a go at simple AG

Ended up at 1.040 which I can live with, just glad to get an AG brew under my belt. I pitched it straight onto the yeast cake of a cascade pale ale I bottled tonight so I expect it'll go like the clappers. I'll see my brother on 21st so by then it should be bottled and maybe ready for a sample...

Have a go at simple AG

I'm not too fussed on the OG, if I hit 1.040 then it'll be a decent session strength beer. I'm usually very good at checking checking and checking, but assumed this time.

Have a go at simple AG

Bad start. I took on of the 1Kg bags of Maris Otter and poured it into the 3L of water, thought it wasn't a lot of water then looked at my bag with the rest of the grain (I'd bought 5Kg). There were 6 x 500g bags there meaning the bag i'd used was a 2Kg bag! In with another 3L of water and...
