    Stuck fermentations

I have two batches of Beaverdale red wine well and truly stuck. One I have not fussed with thinking to work with one before tackling the other. The kits were made up with an extra kilo of sugar, something I have done for many years now so nothing out the ordinary. I have tried making up starters...

    Reusable 10 litre box?

We have bought these from Cheers in Long Eaton over the years but cannot seem to find them online elsewhere. Anyone got some pointers to another source please? They also come in a 5 litre size and they last, some of ours must be 10 years + Thanks PH

    Wine boxes?

Some years ago we bought 10 litre bladders in a cardboard box which was mainly red in colour. The material of the bladder was (and still is) pretty tough stuff. We paid I think some 10 years ago £8 ish for them. On looking for more I am seeing white or brown cardboard outers and the bladders...

    Dirty airlock

I found an airlock I had forgotten about and it is black inside and probably has been like that for several years. At the moment it is soaking in sterilizer. Any tips for cleaning out the black **** inside it please? Thanks PH

    Strawberry Blush Wine

Hi all, I made this some years ago but in a house move lost the recipe. I do though remember that 10 tins of strawberries and some sultanas were involved along with a high alcohol yeast. Found it and it is this: 10 tins of strawberries 588gms. 3 litres white grape juice 1 litre apple juice...

    No rinse sterilizers: issues?

My LBS told me today that none of the three wholesalers they deal with will stock these products "due to concerns" Any idea what the issues might be? PH

    National Brewery Centre

Went today, had lunch (awesomely excellent and great value for money) took the tour and talk about interesting. Thoroughly good value and a huge amount of information to digest. The famous water does not come from the Trent river but from a special layer sourced from wells. Now who worked...

    King Keg tap leak

Bought this last week and filled it tonight with water and gassed it to pressure test it. So the tap is leaking, not a lot just a drop every few minutes but it shouldn't should it? If it were "product" then nasties could in theory get in. I intend taking it back for a change out. PH

    Another IPA problem

I brewed the kit as per instructions and put in the recommended sugar to achieve the 2nd fermentation. A month later the beer is both flat and frankly pretty horrid, a very yeasty smell, and very cloudy. It is in my cellar at some 15C. I am seriously thinking of binning it and moving on...

    Powerful red

;Hi, Been trawling through the recipes and done a search but cannot find anything for a really powerful red wine. If anyone can suggest a way of producing one even if it means modding a kit then please let me know. PH

    Hello to the group

My primary interest is mead as I produce honey in polystyrene hives, the better way to house bees. I run a bee information website to assist as many as I can in that hobby. I made wine and beer many years ago and have returned to the craft and am finding it much easier that it was due to the...
