BarleyPi - An (almost fully) automated Pi Controlled brewery

I'm really interested in following this - I work in industrial automation but the equipment used within my line of work is really expensive but then again this type of equipment is used by big breweries so I'm looking at the cheap alternative! :)

£100 for 40L stainless steel pot, cheap?

It does indeed! I can see my bank balance dropping considerably over the next month or so. Need to work out exactly what I need equipment-wise first to go from my current FV to a full blown system :) Just need to look at "borrowing" some parts from work for automation :geek:

£100 for 40L stainless steel pot, cheap?

Hi All, Is £100 for a 40L stainless steel pot cheap? It's got a 4mm bottom and a 1.2mm wall. I'm thinking those dimensions are a little on the thin side......or maybe I'm clueless? :) cheers Pete

    Widgets

the widgets are inserted into the cans in an area which is under pressure to keep the contents within the widget - as soon as you open the can the pressure difference causes the release of gas which in turn gives you that texture. Unfortunately unless you have the ability to bottle under high...

    Sensor positioning

morethanworts- give me a poke on the 22nd - thats when the profile raises the temp up to 18 degrees and then a few days later it drops it down to 2 degrees.

    Sensor positioning

    Central heating packed in

the only way for it to go backwards is for you to add more sugar. Now this could be the answer if your fermentables were clumped and now have dissolved... Another reason why it's showing higher is bubbles, give your hydrometer a spin to make sure it's not caught by anything. With regards to...

    Sensor positioning

I have 3 temp sensors - 1 in the FV, 1 in "free air" inside the brew fridge and one sat on top to get room temperature. I'm able to keep my fermentation within 0.1 degree constantly using all 3 sensors to calculate diffs and running times.

    Invert bottles

Would inverting bottles while conditioning help with not getting sediment into the glass. I'm thinking conditioning all bottles upside down, then slowly turn the right way up. this will result in the **** being in the lid which then when coming to pour is simply taken off removing said ****...

    bottling when bubbling

bear in mind the beer can still release co2 after fermentation - get the readings checks and if they're stable after 2-3 readings then it's finished.
