    Pavement parking.

Parking across a pavement seems so trivial until you have a pushchair, wheelchair or mobility scooter. Why should we have to navigate a road just because someone has blocked the pavement. The stupid thing is that even parked across the pavement they are still blocking the road to two way traffic.

    Elderflower Gose

For the latest one I just used the CML 3.5. FG was 1010 and PH about 3.5. The previous one I added US05 at 1017 and it dropped to 1010 with a PH about 3.7. Quite a long ferment of 10 days at 22c. In future I will stick with just the CML 3.5.

    Elderflower Gose

Hi. Only just read this post. Whilst I have not used fresh elderflower in a Gose I have just brewed one and split it into four kegs with some dried flavours in three of them. One has rose petals, one has orange peel and one has elderflower. So far the rose petal one is very good (as long as you...

    Tonic Water

That is exactly what I do. I keep a keg of plain carbonated water and then I can add whatever flavour I want.

What's the crappiest place in the UK?

We used to go to Peterborough quite regularly before covid for work and stayed in one of the hotels just off the center. There are quite a few good pubs but I wouldn't want to be out late at night. I remember going in one and getting collared by a religious nutter, when I went to leave the...

Up front Brewing: Das ist Techno Sex & Upfront Clemanade

Hi. I brewed my first Gose last year and I must say I found it a big success. The basic recipe gave a sour wheat beer but I experimented and added some dried orange peel to the keg and this really acme out well. For souring I used the CML 3.5 yeast. This worked really well and it got down to...

Best Brew you have ever done Kit or All Grain

Having tried a couple of my late 2021 brews after a bit of a lay-off over the festive season I can say that two of them were my best ever: Orange Gose. First attempt at a Gose and the orange peel was added after a taste test. This has just run out and I must get my **** in gear and brew this...

Picture or Video of the day.

Apparently Alpaca's are very good at protecting sheep as well. We spotted these two in with the sheep last year close to West Bay.

    Changes to the highway code.

I have had a look through the new code and can't see anything on whether exiting from a roundabout is counted as a junction i.e. you should stop if a pedestrian is waiting to cross. We have a few roundabouts with pedestrian crossings areas (not zebra or controlled by lights) on the exits and I...

    Gas manifold kaput

My original gas manifold has finally succumbed to a significant leak. It was second hand when I got it several years ago and was leaking via the regulator. I managed to remove the fixed regulator from the gas board and found some push fit connectors that enabled me to connect to a bottle mounted...

    Bag in box carbonation

On mine I think a lot of the lack of carbonation was due to the gas getting in between the bag layers rather than staying in the beer. I did get a single wall 5 litre bag to try out but never got around to using it.

    Bag in box carbonation

Hi. I think these are the ones I tried a few years ago if they are the double skinned versions. I never had a lot of success, the main reason being the inner layer is gas permeable so I found the CO2 generated during the secondary fermentation got trapped between the bag layers meaning I...

    A Long Time Ago . . .

Time well spent. Really enjoyed watching and interesting to see the brewery hadn’t really changed that much over the years.

Advice for check valve with beer engine

Can't quite see but is the drain coming off the beer in line? If it is I wouldn't expect it to empty the cylinder as there should be (if my memory serves me correctly from when I refurbished my Angram unit several years ago, although it looks like it was a different model) a non- return valve at...
