    Barrel issues help please.

Hi folks. I've just checked my all grain brew thinking it would be ready for conditioning. To my horror after 2 weeks with sugar in it, it's flat as a pancake. I've found that the seal on the barrel has distorted! Would I need to add more sugar or just keep it another couple of weeks in the...

Corney keg or stick with plastic keg

Hi folks. Just looking for some opinions. Thinking of upgrading to a corney keg and beer engine. Currently have 4 plastic kegs. Is it better with a corney and force carbonating or should I stick with the barrels and priming?

    Krausen or lack of.

Hi. I have 2 all grain beers in the fvs. Been there for a week now. There is a little krausen around the edge, but not over the whole beer. Is this normal? As all others I've done has a large krausen over whole beer. Thanks in advance.

    Forgot to add Irish moss

I forgot to add Irish moss to my last 5 mins of boil. Just remembered now, after it's in the keg for clearing in the garage! Will it this just take longer to clear than usual?

    Chilling quickly or overnight cool

Hi folks. Does cooling the wort straight after boiling seal in the hop flavour and aroma? Does the wort lose hop flavour and aroma if left in wort and cooled overnight? Can't get my head round hopping!!

    AG Hopping question

Hi folks. I'm currently experimenting with AG. This is my second attempt. First attempt very tasty IMO. First attempt I left the wort and hops in the electric boiler overnight to cool. Then transferred to FV and added yeast. This seemed to work. Attempt 2, should I boil hops and then transfer...

    Keg v bottle

Hi folks. Just a quick question. I bottled 6 and kegged the rest, it's a Festival Golden Stag. I poured a bottle and a pint from the keg to compare. I found the keg pint lighter in colour and possibly slightly smoother to drink. Is this the norm?

    Cooling before adding sugar?

Hi. First AG in FV. I was thinking of siphoning to a second FV in 2 weeks and placing in garage to cool for a week, before kegging/bottling and adding sugar, and them bring back to house for 2 weeks. Will this help with a clearer beer? Or will it damage the yeast for carbonating?

    Increase OG level

Morning folks. I've just completed my first AG BiAB. All went well I think. I let the brew cool over night and now it's in the FV. I was hoping to hit an OG of 1040ish, but it's only 1036. Probably didn't boil off enough liquid? Anyway, can I add brewing sugar before adding the yeast to...

    First AG

Hi. As a total newbie, I'm about to do my first biab. I was wondering if anyone has done a clone of fyne ales anywhere.? Love these beers, going to try and do a lighting jack style. Sorry if this is frowned upon. Cheers scott

    BIAB newbie question

Hi folks. I have now done 2 kits, 2nd one still in fv. I have bought a buffalo boiler to start BIAB, am I moving too quickly to this method as I'm a total newbie to brewing? My main question is, after reading through Calum's excellent how to, is sugar not added to the wort after boiling? I...

    Newbie fermenting question

Hi all. At first stage fermentation, after a couple of days, should you stir back in to the wort the bits stuck on the lid and side of the fv? Just wondering if this is valuable yeast going to waste. Cheers

    Newbie kegging questions

Hi folks Ive started my second kit, got 2 as Xmas present. First one in garage clearing - does clearing mean waiting until its kind of translucent or is it just clearing any sediment? Second in primary fv, which is standing in water heated by a tank heater at 23c. - when I keg this one and add...

    Newbie- pressure barrel question

Hi folks. Sorry if this a daft question. How often should you add co2 to a barrel when drinking from it. I draw about 3 or 4 pints then the tap goes flat or stops. Is this normal, or have I got a leak somewhere? Although the barrel will stay pressurised for days if I don't touch it. Thanks
