    Long time in Secondary FV

It’s in bottles and I did some quality control testing …….hic …….was crystal clear from the centre of the batch…. It’s lost most of any hop flavours but should be fine I think…. I will update in a few weeks…… Cheers

    Long time in Secondary FV

It was snapped shut but maybe 95% I usually go round two or three times on a lid to make sure.I didn’t to let CO2 out as it was an active fermentation. Then a black towel. It’s semi-clear, smells nice, tastes like it’s been in there two weeks and it’s now 1.002.This happened before and I ditched...

    Long time in Secondary FV

Hey there, just looking for advice on kit brew No47. It has been sitting in a secondary FV. since 11/11/22 with a towel over it and sealed fairly tightly so as to allow some gas to escape. It looks reasonably clear with some hop detritus on top and smells normal as if there was a good layer of...

    Very out of date kits

Well time for an update....This was bottled on 03/02 so 12 days ago so time for a test. This has quite a dark colour as was predicted but its clear, nicely carbonated, nice head and lacing on the glass.A strong tasting beer (ABV wise) , quite malty and with a sweet undertone.Actually could drink...

    Very out of date kits

Ok Bottled this yesterday.Got 42 x 500ml out of it after clearing up nicely in the bottling bucket for 8 days.So Brewday to bottle in 24 days.FG 1.014 so it’s about 4.59%.It tastes quite malty and is pretty dark with a nice hint of sweetness. It probably hasn’t brewed out quite as well as it...

    Very out of date kits

Update : this has been on the go since the 10th and after a fairly vigorous initial fermentation has calmed down a lot.Just bubbling intermittently now.Cleaning up I suspect. Just dry hopped with 25g EKG pellets.Currently at 1.014 and will rack it on Friday which is 14 days.I am not sure if it...

Advice on my next kit brew

Done the Old Suffolk twice great results both times.Good step up from the Woodfordes kits.Dry hop pellets and priming sugar etc.As a strong beer ( came out about 6.0% ) it did benefit from a few months bottle conditioning.Last few bottles fantastic.I would give it at least 2 months in the...

    Very out of date kits

This brew is wrapped in a blanket with a brew mat and is still at 18C I am keener to pitch at 20C.So my mind is turning to rehydrating my Gervin yeast which is from Wilko so a Nottingham as I understand it.However my thermometer is for the round file!! Any suggestions as to how long boiled...

    Very out of date kits

Hey Folks well this one is ready to be pitched later.Couple of schoolboy errors as I was rattling on so it is a bit cold at 18C will pitch later at 20C and the little grommet for holding my airlock fell through into my brew as I fitted said airlock!!! Sanitising another.... but the first one was...

    Very out of date kits

Thanks for the responses Unfortunately I have no brewing sugar so will have to use the Spraymalt should add body.I have done loads of kits and dry hopping but never a hop tea whilst brewing up.Because the kit is so old I figured what the hell!!I will dry hop with the remaining Goldings (20)g and...

    Very out of date kits

Hey all, I know there are plenty of threads on this already but I think this may be some kinda record and these are Betterbrew Pouches. Under a spare bed were : BetterBrew Irish Stout 2.1KG BBE 06/15 and a Briess CBW Porter 1.5KG BBE 11/15 obviously bought together. And a BetterBrew IPA 2.1KG...

    Easy Beer Brew Kit Recommendations

I quickly moved on from one can kits to just about every kit made by Festival.Very comprehensive kits and if you are patient all produce good results. If you like hoppy IPA the Razorback IPA is a go to kit for many kit brewers.Plus Young’s American series kits are really good too. I am not...

Best Three you have ever done

    Dry Hopping

Try a Festival Kit,they come with a syphon bag which fits over well.....yer syphon, to stop this problem,as all their kits come with hop pellets.Works great, and I boil em up afterwards and again before I re-use them.Dunno if you can buy them from anywhere.Worth a try tho.

    Bourbon Oak Chips

Hi fella's,I think this will work fine and should impart a nice oak hint to this beer. The Old Suffolk is one of my favourite brews and the addition of "oak" would be interesting.I tend to dry hop mine by adding the hop pellets after about nine days as I don't like my beer too hoppy. The advantage...

    getting good head?

I find that a CALPOL syringe works really well for this as it has a flat end which you can rest on the bottom of the glass.I use a jug and smallish glasses for my beer.Never fails to create a nice creamy head. Another method is to carefully pour your beer into a plastic measuring jug like those...

    Newbie with Woodfordes Headcracker

Hi, Dave as I mentioned with my first reply I haven't done a Headcracker but did scoff a Wherry. It did take about six weeks in the bottle to get really nice. But some were sampled each week for quality control purposes ;). Why not check out the A-Z of beer kit reviews elsewhere on the forum,as...
