Hi all, As far as ales go I like Old Speckled Hen & Abbott Ale. Are there any kits out there that are in the same ball park? Cheers

Using confectionery with beer kits (also kit questions)

Morning all! I've been having a little fun with basic beer kits recently in using that Lowicz fruit syrups in them which have come out lovely. So, I love fizzy sweets - the veggie Colin the Caterpillar fizzy sweets from M&S to be exact - and wanted to shove them in a beer kit. Has anyone else...

    Stick or twist.....

Morning everyone. I have been on my homebrewing journey for 5/6 years now and have been through a number of kit iterations. I started off with a Peco BIAB kit from GEB, which I really enjoyed using, with the simplicity of it all. From this I upgraded the kettle side of this to a 15gal SS...

    Improving a Wilko IPA

Hey Guys, Sorry if this has been done to death but I've just found a Wilko IPA in the cupboard that goes out of date this month. I think I'd like to brew it, replacing the 1kg sugar addition with some grain and adding a few hops to make it a bit better. I've done a little bit of reading and was...

Long out of date brewing sugar?

Hi after a few years break, ... returning to Home brewing again: going to do a John Bull best biter and a Geordie best bitter kit. Having a sort out before re-cleaning & sterilising stuff, I've found a bag of brewing sugar that went out of date in August 2016! been stored in the dry, the bag is...

Ideas and advice for different fruit/flavours to add to red wine brew kit please?

Howdy folks, hope everyone is supping well and staying safe. I have a second 30bottle MYO red wine kit to start to make and because I don’t have another 30 empty bottles I am wanting to have a play about with flavour and rack it into 6 separate demijohns and then bottle later. My question is...

Do I need to bottle Wilko Cerveza now or can it wait a few days?

Hi all, just a quick question about my kit I am brewing. My Wilko Cerveza kit is now at a constant 1.005, is it best to bottle it ASAP or will it be ok to sit around in the beer fridge for a few days at 1.005? Just asking as I will struggle to find time until the weekend, but also it’s good...

Summer Glory Kit - When to Hop?!

Hi everyone, Am still quite new to home brewing but have learned that 3 weeks in the "bucket" often equates to a better tasting brew than if you stick to the 10-14 days the kits generally recommend. I'm brewing "summer glory" and the instructions say leave it to ferment in the bucket for 5...

    Stuck or Done?

Looking for a pointer please – this is my very first brew and I’ve been reading a ton for a week or more and getting lots of information… not sure what I should do for the best… It looks like I may have stuck fermentation (or a long lag time down to amount of yeast / brew strength) . I...

    Brew for my Dad

I have an interesting request. My father is visiting from Australia and only drinks his own homebrew. He would like to send his kit and have it brewed into a 5 or 11 gallon keg for my kegerator I have here in the UK. Would yourself or someone you know be able to brew 30 or 60 litres of his...

Pimping up Wlko kits advice please

So, inspired by @BeerCat thread of wheat beer in a week, and the impending 40th BBQ bash I'm having in 3 weeks, I thought I'd give a quick fermentation brew or 2 a go. I have Voss yeast and temp control so this should assist. However, called the local HBS to order some grain to pick up on way...

First Time Brew - Help needed! :)

Hi all! I've previously made one batch of beer (and one only) and had to stop because of a few personal issues. So I don't really have any experience in brewing my own beer and I am just now getting re-familiarized with the terms, the process, etc! Now, I'm back in business and very keen on...

    Need a beer kit recommendation

My first attempt failed miserably but after a trip to a local brewery I discovered why and my second attempt worked better. My first attempt was with the Young’s brewbuddy starter lager kit which...

Hi all I hope this is the correct forum for this query. I'm about to start my homebrewing adventure and would like a bit of guidance on my first few brews. I've been told the key to a successful brewday is planning, so for once I'm going to listen to advice ;) Due to space constraints I'm...

Scottish Heavy - a la Kevvy

So I decided to get my Young's Scottish Heavy underway today. Only a kit so not much to worry about. Only my second brew, but the first was a success... Rookie mistake... I assumed the process would be the same as the Coopers Dark I just did. Armed with my kg of brew enhancer, everything was...

    Help - Soft Tin

I have just received a Young's Scottish Heavy tin kit. The tin is soft and flexible. Is this acceptable for a home brew tin? I wouldn't accept it with a tin of beans. The tin seems to be whole and has no punctures or rust patches. An advice appreciated.
