Hi all, I am doing my first all grain brew. Doing 1 gallon batch.
Can you tell me if I only 1 5th of the yeast? Do I hydrate 1/5 of yeast in 1/5 of suggested water (1/5 of 100ml).
LalBrew American West Coast Ale Yeast BRY-97. 11g pack.

Hi

Yes, the method for rehydrating dried yeast is usually to sprinkle the yeast on 10x its weight of water, so for less yeast you'd use less water ... but that particular strain of yeast is renowned for loooooong lag times (often 48-72 hours before any signs of fermentation), and pitching more yeast is one of the recognised ways of avoiding that, so you might want to save yourself some stress and use more like half (or even the whole) sachet anyway :?:

Cheers, PhilB
