I am brewing a Greg Hughes oatmeal stout this weekend ,and i am going to add three vanilla beans, and was wondering which is peoples preferred method ,
1. Add to the last ten minutes of the boil
2.Add chopped up beans to vodka etc and make a tincture
3.Add to FV after about 7 days

Just really wondering if it makes any difference on the finished beer ,

Watching this thread with interest as I'm currently 3 days into the primary fermentation of a chocolate oatmeal stout. Might add vanilla to it too.

I added 25mls of (quality) pure essence to 25l at bottling. Not sure I can detect it. Wish I'd bottled a couple pre-addition to compare.

Thinking I'll bump it up and/or chuck some beans in after 7 days next time.
