So I corked up a fresh batch of wine yesterday. I'm using standard screw top bottles which the corks seem to go into without issue.

After bottling I noticed that some of the corks felt fairly soft. The soft ones, if I put them upside down inside a glass all night by morning the corks are visibly wet. Nothing has leaked out from the bottle into the glass. The corks are just wet from the wine inside the bottle.

Is this normal?

Thanks

In my experience the inside diameter of screwtop bottle necks is slightly larger than proper cork neck bottles. This may be causing the leak. Also, you need to leave the newly corked bottles upright for 24hours before laying down. This allows the cork to expand fully in to all the tiny nooks and crannies.
