'Pay at Pump' fury over new £99 deposit charge for drivers (msn.com) What i get from this is most of the pumps need to be upgraded which will cost a lot money, so it is easier to ring fence 99 quid, it is not a problem for me but could hit a lot of people hard

Terrible ........ reporting. The new system is explained properly here:

The preauthorisation (not a charge) is for a maximum of £99, or less if you don't have £99 available.
Then you fill up to the maximum permitted preauthorisation.
Then you are immediately charged for what you bought and the pre-authorisation is released. All done before you've got back in the car.

This is to stop abuse where a thief could be authorised to fill up based on a £1 "have you got a working card check" then immediately goes and spends up to the limit on the card and the fuel payment that's taken later is refused and the thief has got away wth stealing the fuel.

Assuming the IT works, then only thieves will be hit hard.

I don't use these pumps we regularly see ATM's being targeted by scammers these will be next I would rather pay at the kiosk it doesn't take long.
