By that theory if you dump 2 guys in the middle of the sahara, one with nothing to drink and the other with a truck load of beer, then the guy with the beer will die of dehydration first. I think not.

The guy with the truck full of beer should just drive them both back to safety.

Alcohol being a diuretic is not a theory

It will dehyrate you to promote water loss.

It is an interesting thought though, reminds me of the who would stave first the person eating celery minus calories or the person eating nothing

I got a wee lecture from my Ops SGT about my drinking.
I told him the vodka I drank was only half water, so I had to drink twice as much to get hydrated.
Then I was told that if I black out, that’s a problem- I said it was my liver quitting before I was ready so it had to be punished, so I had another drink.
My Ops SGT said I had to stop drinking.
Then he told me to stop laughing.
