Would these be OK - postie carefully delivered them today

My worry would be the tin coating is split on the inside exposing the mild steel and contaminating the contents - it would be a shame to put in 5 weeks fermenting / bottling / storing to then find out they are duff.

Talk to the peolpe you bought the cans from. Its not your fault they are dented, so you shouldnt be looking for solutions to a problem that isn't yours.

Can't see a problem with the one on the right as I have had cans like that and they were fine, the only problem I see is the one on the left as it will be hard to open unless the other end is undamaged.

That is something that I am doing (not had a response yet)

But I am curious as to what others on here think - consider it as independent advice.

I was QA Manager at Heinz so know a bit about cans. If the bash is on the seem do not buy it. Anywhere else no problem.

the seam on the side of the can is undamaged on both cans - but does where the top and bottom of the can join onto the sides constitute as a seam, as per the image this is clearly very damaged.

Yup, both cans look like I would use them. I'd smell them though, just to check them extra.

Thats interesting to know. I've always thought not to buy any cans with any type of dent in them. I dont know why but have always just avoided them

When Tesco did HB, I had dented cans at least once. Complained and got them replaced. The dented tins were fine, but I feel that the posts above by Cheshire Cat may be the most informed.

I would ask for a refund due to the condition they arrived in. It may prompt them to be a bit more careful in packaging.

Because of the nature of what is inside them I would still think they would be useful if you used them up. High sugar syrups tend to be a preservative anyway - but that is not the point here.
