We had one of those when I was young. We were living in Germany at the time and they were all the rage.
One fateful day my younger brother announced that he was Tarzan and swung on one of the chains. He opened pretty much every link in the chain.
My dad saw what happened and rushed over to try and save the clock. He then spent most of that evening with a pair of needle-nosed pliers closing up each link while my mum held the end of the chain to keep it under tension so all the links didn’t fall apart!
It never did work properly after that!

Bought at a yardsale.
Made a perfect target for my BBgun.
