They're like my children, it just wouldn't be fair to pick a favourite...

...but Black Sheep's Riggwelter was sliding down very easily over the winter holidays.

It'll soon be spring though, when my tastes will undoubtedly change towards the lighter beers again.

Fell in love with St. Peters over the Xmas period

Favs are Ruby Red, Cream Stout, Winters Ale, Xmas Ale...

Few guys at the work chipped in and we put in a bulk order direct to the brewery. Once it arrived we did bottle swaps to get a good mix. Everybody was well impressed with the beers.

Found out between Xmas and New Year that the local Tesco (Bathgate) stocks Ruby Red and Cream Stout - I cleaned them out twice! £1.65/bottle was way cheaper than the brewery prices too :hmm:

As much as I like hoppy beers the two commercial beers I've enjoyed the most in the last year have been bitters. Station Bitter from Stonehouse Brewery and Redwood from Grain Brewery. Hopefully when I get myself up & running with AG I'll be able to work towards clones of these.

I had a couple of pints of "Birra Armada" 4.8% earlier at my local Wetherspoons. It was very hoppy - more so than I'm used to but not as much as some of the "new" beers which can be too much for my taste. I really enjoyed it and at £1.89 a pint it's a steal.

(Anyone know which hops it uses?)

It'd be impossible to pick a favourite as I keep finding new ones I love! A few notable ones tho:

- Oakham Citra
- Innes and Gunn - pretty much all of them
- Tesco Revisionist Dark IPA
- BrewDog Dead Pony

I tried a pint of Oakham The Opportunist oatmeal stout last night and that was fantastic. Not a bad list considering I only discovered I like real ale in August last year!

What about the Brewdog Punk IPA or is it the case the more "commercialised" it gets the less people like it ?
Thumbs up from me anyway :thumb:

I don't have a favourite - my local always has on 2 guest beers from smaller breweries, and different every week. Most I enjoy, but occasionally not, if they're not the sort of beer I like.
If I had to name a beer I'd love to get my hands on though - it's Jenlain from somewhere in northern France I think. Always look out for it when in France.

Marstons have been brewing some exclusives for Tesco I noticed

The Revisionist is a pretty good series

Marstons are also doing some beers for morrisons too.

Cool might check them out although since I have been brewing I have been getting less commercials bar a few for treats amongst my own (as I improve upon my brewing)

There was another one.. Theakstons did one for Tesco Masham Glory?? some cinamomy raisin one.. I think its one that will divide the crowd but to me it tasted like hot cross buns I only had it a few times but it was nice I thought

I can't get enough of Oakham Ales - Inferno at the moment, especially when it's 3 for £5 in Morissons...

Lidl are doing, Bishops Finger, Hob Goblin, Spitfire and Marstons Pedigree IPA for £1.24 a bottle. The refuge of a man waiting for his first brew to condition.

I was bought a bottle of Rogue Seven Hop IPA for my birthday...jeeeeeeeeeez. I've never tasted such an explosion of flavours. Incredible. 600ml bottle at 8.2%=me faceplanting into my cake!

Tried a few beers for the first time last night. A couple that stood out were:

Welsh Black, Great Orme brewery. 4%. An interesting and unusual ale. Black like a stout, made with no aroma hops, 7 types of grain. Very malty, coffee.

Red Dragon, Great Orme brewery. 4.5%. This is right up my street and the one I settled on for the evening. I can't describe the taste other than "bloody nice" with a noticeable but not overpowering hoppyness. Very, very nice beer.

There were a couple of others that were very good too but, ahem, I can't remember what they were.

:drunk:

Edit: There was one called "Indiana's Bones" which was also very nice if a little strong for a session.

Heck - beers are like biscuits - I've yet to try one I don't like. :)

My local wine shop has had Beavertown's "Quelle" on sale for the last few weeks @ £1.50 a bottle.

It's described as a "dry hopped saison" and it's lovely, can't get enough!

To further my understanding of American hops I've just knocked the top off a bottle of Marston's Revisionist Rye Pale Ale (Tesco), all in the name of research of course.

"Dry hopped with Citra and Amarillo" apparently and very nice it is too.

I give it a firm "yes please barman" out of 10. :hat:
