Chilled my wort today in the monk down to 23
Then using the pump shot it in to FV nice and well full of oxygen went to pitch but temp label on bucket said 28
It boiled bang on 100 so that makes me think monk is ok
Could temp strip be dodgy or could it be that pump was still hot or????

If I understand it, the temp stripe in the bucket was 28c, but the temp before that was 23c. Some of them aren't reading the real temp, probably the stripe. Make a test with another thermometer and compare it. The pump itself cannot be the reason for such difference.

As @DavidHatton said the temp maybe higher at the top of the wort as is's measured at the base I presume, what I do when I'm cooling the wort (I have a Brewster Beacon) is put the recircing pipe in and use the pump so the wort from the bottom comes to the top etc..... and it gives a truer temp reading throughout.
