A little rock called Alderney
Hi All,

I'm really interested in growing hops next year.
I'm guessing the climate here on Alderney should be good, temperature wise.
But I live 100 yards from the sea and the house windows etc do get a bit of a salt coating at times!
Also we get quite a lot of fog and tomatoes etc get blight really easily here.
Are these conditions suitable for hop growing?

I just harvest my chinooks in sunny jersey, I’m also close to the shore, my cascade will be another week or two…can’t see a problem they are very hearty, plenty of sun and plenty of water, they are weeds after all. I can give you a cutting of each next spring and post them over if u like

I found a bush full of what looks like hops going to the chipshop tonight. Is it a hop and how do you dry them?
Yes it's a hop. Pick them, and get them into a beer within 12 hours. Don't bother trying to dry them. Use a regular bittering hop and add these at the end of the boil and later hop rest.
Nicely formed cone and large for a wild hop. Looks like a rare example of Warrington Beauty. Too good to pass up.
