Hello all,

Seasons greetings. I started my first brew over 2 weeks ago and bottled the kit last Friday. Thanks for all the advice. I have another Kit and was planning on starting my second brew tomorrow. It is a Coopers Preachers Hefe Wheat Kit. I also have 1Kg of Dry Wheat Spray Malt plus 1Kg of Brewing Sugar. I was going to use the full 1Kg of Spray Malt, and had purchased the brewing sugar for batch priming. I will not need the full bag and was wondering if I should add some of the brewing sugar along with the spray malt, or just use the spray malt? Have any of you brewed this kit before and what would you recommend?

Many thanks,

Damien

Thank you. This is a step up for me after the last kit. I appreciate your advice.

Thanks Clint,

I didn’t know whether to do a 50/50 with the Wheat spray malt and Brewing Sugar, or just stick to the 1Kg of Spray malt on its own. Or do the 1Kg of Spray Malt and add some brewing sugar too in order to increase the AVG a little. There was not too much information with the tin, and not too much information on the website either. Thanks for your help.

Bottled the beer last night. FG was 1.006 , so should be around 5%. Even got Belgian caps for my first Belgian style Wheat beer. Tasted great from the trial jar, you could drink it out of the bucket. Batch primed it with 180g of dextrose mixed with 500ml of water. Used an auto siphon for the first time. Seemed like there was a lot of air in the line. I learnt a lot. It’s boxed up now and will be in my hot press for 2 weeks before conditioning in my garage. Looking forward to drinking it.

Thanks for the advice.

Damien

We brewed this kit before and used the Coopers wheat malt extract in addition. We also made only 20 litre batch so it was a little stronger (about 5,5% if I remember correctly). It made a surprisingly good beer :D I hope yours will turn out good as well!

Thank you. It tastes really good already, from just what I sampled from the trial jar. I’m looking forward to emptying out those bottles again.

This was my second ever brew. I started it on the 24th of December 2020.
Coopers Hefe Wheat Kit
1 Kg of Wheat DME
500g of Brewing Sugar

OG = 1.044 - Initial Fermentation was very active and the krausen came up through the airlock.
08/01/2021 the FG after 48 hours was 1.006
I bottled using 180g of Dextrose mixed in with 500ml of hot water as priming solution in second FV and transferred over the brew.
2 weeks in the hot press for secondary fermentation and 2 weeks in my garage.

Tried my first bottle last night. In fact I had two. It turned out really nice. Somewhere between an Erdinger and Hoegaarden. Carbonation is spot on. Hint of cloves and at the very end of the glass I got a very definite banana taste with the last mouthful. I enjoyed the second serving even more as I became accustomed to the taste. I knew I had drank a couple of beers afterwards, it's pretty powerful stuff sitting somewhere between 5.2 to 5.5% I think. If I had 4 pints of Erdinger, I'd be on my ear, so I think this is in the same ball park.

I am looking forward to having a couple more tonight, maybe one or two extra for good measure. It is Friday after all. Really happy with this, I think it turned out really well. On my to do list again.

Thanks everyone for all your advice.

Damien
