I was in Wales for a few weeks with work and combined it with a summer holiday went around, nobody there I see wears masks at all no one in shops or anything, just as they were I was pretty amazed actually
The rules are very different over here. The Welsh government sticks to the scientific advice that masks are of very limited value. But we do have to wear them on public transport.

Personally I think this is wrong. Masks may be of very limited value, but the twats refusing to wear them identify themselves as the sort of twats unlikely to follow any advice. Therefore you know to stay well clear.

(EDIT: Quick switch of "advise" to "advice"; I can never get that spelling correct first thyme 🥴 )

I honestly don't think we will see a second lockdown, not in the same sense as the first. More temporary localised restrictions, perhaps, but a country wide lockdown? I don't think so. I

I think you are right there may be big areas of the country locked down but not countrywide lockdown.

Still waiting on child #2's test result - supposed to be returned today but nothing in yet. In the meantime we've been informed that another kid in a different year has tested positive. I think reopening the schools could be a terrible mistake.

Face covering is to stop us spreading it not to stop us breathing it in so when you are out in the open as long as you keep the recommended distance from others there is no reason to cover your nose and mouth.

But can you really keep that distance at all times? Does everyone else? Better safe than sorry if you ask me.

It surely depends where you are if I’m in the town centre I’m going to be wearing a mask outside, if for no other reason than I don’t want to have to put it on each time I enter a shop. A decent mask can be comfortably worn for an extended period.

On the other hand if I’m going for a walk on a quiet evening where I will Maybe pass one or two people at most in an hour the. I won’t wear a mask unless I’m going into a shop.

If everyone wore face coverings all the time then the risk of spreading it would be less but how would they police it, i see loads of idiots going into the service station i visit every morning with no masks on and the young lass behind the counter says nothing as she is powerless, if they made it law that you have to wear them all the time there would be a massive backlash and how would they police it.

From sth east Ireland here Ove witnessed many young lads or girls on deli counters or shops refusing to serve people unless there wearing a mask it's not a big deal just put one on make it law job done

I have been to the pub twice, I was the youngest there both times. Youth are getting a hard time but they are most likely to work in hospitality and people facing jobs, are most likely to use public transport and most likely to live in multi occupancy homes.
And now they have been forced back together in schools. My daughter retuned to 6th form yesterday and showed me a video she took during the day of the canteen, corridors and the exit on the way out. No social distancing whatsoever was possible. It was a disgrace. Brace yourselves!

My children started back to school as well. Its brilliant my youngest started primary 1. No one forces you to send your children to school. Its within your right to home school if that makes you feel more comfortable.
My son is back playing football, life is slowly returning to normal.

I think Ireland is doing relatively well

"Boris Johnson will unveil the regulations on Wednesday following news that new cases are now rising at a rate of nearly 3,000 a day, up from about 1,000 a day for most of August"

Thanks for the link hadn't realised it was that bad.

They are discussing this now on 5live now someone has already texted in saying why can I be with 5 other people but I cannot go to see my parents, how simple do they need to make these rules so the thickest of the thick get it. aheadbutt

And you must be the thickest of thick to realise that 'case' numbers are irrelavant. The numbers in hosp and deaths are the only ones of concern.

Less than 600 nationally. Tests are a joke withfalse posatives. A mountain goat some fruit and an unused test all tested 'posative' then theres the double tests.
The actual toll is less than 1400. 5yr rolling average deaths had dropped 7 weeks on the bash.
You wanna see family. Do it.

Course i recall with great memory the constant testing and mask wearing in 2018 for flu...

Concentrate on what you do not what others do. Stop turning on fellow humans.

'Fears...'blah blah... nah. Never gonna happen.
Didnt happen in london. Didnt happen at large gatherings. Didnt happen at large demos. Didnt happen during the blm craze. Hasnt happened in sweden. Hasnt happened even in China despite pool parties and raves. Wont happen in schools. Less than double figs of kids have died.
Feel free to believe it will. Feel free to lock yourself away. Keep on listening to the constant media propaganda.

Our local council are worried we're facing a local lockdown here soon, as basically since pubs opened, then schools, infection rates have gone up and up and up...

Only recently, a school not far from us the entirety of their year 3 has had to go into self isolation as so many of the students in that year tested positive, then the McDonalds near us has had to close for a deep clean as a member of staff has also tested positive....

On a less doom and gloom side.... Of our 4 daughters (1 has her own flat and child of her own), our 2nd oldest has just gone back to college, and hopefully so far their social distancing measures seem to be ok. There were 14 of them in her group, and they moved room before they even started as it was decided that the room was too small for the group to distance in properly. They also ate their lunches together in this room. She's also been told that she needs a 2nd face mask, as they want her to have one that she uses only for when she goes into animal enclosures. Our 3rd oldest goes to a special school, and they are working with bubbles. Her bubble is all collected on the same bus, those who can wearing face masks on the bus (it's an autism specialist school, so not always possible), are taught together and eat lunch etc together. Oh, and she's complained that she has to wash her hands a heck of a lot. Her uniform has to be washed every day when she gets home. So unlike normal schools, they are doing things differently. Number 4 is home educated (number 3 was too, and is now blasting her way through college happily, this is her 2nd year) as to be quite blunt I wouldn't send a dead dog to our local schools. The kids in them are criminals in the making, and the teachers are so dumb and lazy it leaves me wondering how they got through university at all.....

I'm not a teacher, so have no particular axe to grind, but I think that it's pretty 'dumb and lazy' to blame teachers (who to my mind are on the whole brave enough to put themselves in the firing line day after day and committed enough to give up evenings and weekends to mark and lesson plan) for the ills within our education system.
