Looks like Dublin will be coming under restrictions from midnight tonight.
Cases are increasing at an alarming rate in the capital.

Most of the new cases are community based.
Our new gov communications are not nearly as smooth as the previous administration.

I don't understand the benefit of shutting pubs form 10pm to 5am i get that sober people are more likely to respect distance but all that will happen is people will start drinking earlier.

  • late night operating hours will be restricted, with leisure and entertainment venues including restaurants, pubs, and cinemas, required to close between 10pm to 5am

The curfew is one of the most stupid decisions ever. The whole evenings worth of customers will now be crammed into a shorter timescale meaning more crowded pubs, etc. Stupidity.

You have to remember that PHE is crammed full of temperance tossers, so the answer to everything will be some kind of restriction on alcohol.

The only possible argument I can come up with is that as people become more intoxicated are less likely to observe social distancing but this seems a pretty weak argument.

I have come to the conclusion that whatever they do this covid virus is not going away until everybody observes what is asked of them and that ain't going to happen any time soon, we as a family have manged so far and as far we know none of us have had it, so i will just carry on doing what i have been doing from the beginning, until they start to enforce these rules rigidly nothing will change

If there was a study about the number of viral particles breathed in per hour which showed the longer you stay the more chance of infection (which is kinda obvious) however will less available time in a pub lead to more consumption in a shorter time and thus an increased risk from drunken lack of social distancing and more shouting spreading more particles? - Pubs may not necessarily be more crowded if people arrive earlier and thus leave earlier. Heck we've been to brewdog just after opening and no crowds, we left by 3pm and still no issues with numbers of drinkers.

The safer way i'd suggest could be to increase the opening hours but have a pub limit (or course) but also a maximum time and maximum drinks slot in the pub.
feel free to shoot this idea down, cos I'm at home drinking quite safely. In Gowerton this is preferable to the S-H1t establisments nearby and Swansea would mean taking a train. However if I lived in Leeds ( IMO beer lovers capital of UK - I'd be really depressed about pub restrictions)

I have 295 bottles atm tho' mostly 330's with a few 500's so not quite 500 pints :hat:but I'm working upping my stock to 240 pints.

One good aspect of the lockdown has being the number of breweries now offering beer for home delivery. I have grabbed a half pint on my way back from work (on the couple of days a week I’ve being back in the office) but cannot see myself particularly wanting to go to the pub on a Friday night for a few pints. Unfortunately I suspect my view isn’t that unusual which means the pubs are going to continue to have a really tough time and I just hope most will survive to see the other side of this.

I know politics are in the main to be kept out of this.... <Snip> by Admin.

Please post corvid related anti government posts in the "How have the government handled Covid" thread in the Bridge forum.

I used statistics from the sources you mentioned and linked. But anyway that's me done on this topic, I'm of the opinion that it's not worth arguing with anyone who calls themselves a "truth seeker".
I'm showing my internet age, but *plonk* on that guy

I've not had time to read the whole thread but I'll share my covid story.

The wife and I are 40 and she's far fitter than me working out and yoga a few times a week.

I work in a bigish city but live out by the coast and felt pretty safe. 2 women I sit near stayed away from work (this was before the first lockdown) as someone in their houses was ill - and then we locked down in our house the week before Boris announced the full lockdown. By that Monday my wife lost her sense of taste and smell but felt fine, by the weds it was back again but she felt rough, and for the next two weeks she had a terrible flu and pneumonia like symptoms (we couldnt get a test as this was back in March.)

After 2 weeks she was pretty much better, we went for a short walk. The next day she was just shattered - like scarily so. Then she got worse and worse for about 3 months, endless trips to hospital to get loads of strange and seemingly unrelated symptoms - numbness, low oxygen, lung pain, heart pain, high heart rate, low etc etc.

About month 4 she got a tiny bit better but not much - still either in bed or at best on the sofa, couldn't even play with our kids or read a book.

It is now nearly 6 months since she fell ill - she can make her own lunch and join us on the school run and play with the kids a bit, but there is no way she could work or even head out for a walk. These symptoms are pretty rare, but looking like maybe 1 in 1000 people that get covid have long symptoms like this.

So please be careful out there folks! It has been a pretty crappy half year, but one that finally seems to be getting better. Just really hope there is no long term effects for her or others like this.

@crowcrow there isn't a care emojii here so a few words, thank you for describing the personal side of this situation. I've stayed away from this thread since really it's not somewhere that people like myself should comment. Yours though is the very human side of this situation, yes the deaths are hard to think about but there are far many more families that are addressing the long term effects of this pandemic that are far more than just a flu like illness.
Please, for those reading this, respect the advice given, focus on washing your hands and respect for surface contamination , for heaven's sake we are brewers here, we know about surfaces, contamination and the risk of spoilage. Bring that respect to your day to day experiences with others, and share that experience with those that know you.

Ok nuff said for now.. this matters.

*I've been drinking powerfully strong beer (11% and 14%, respectively, two of them)

Just so you know where I'm at, the only thing I knew about POTUS in '15 was that he owned casinos and he tried to intimidate Clinton (looming over her in a debate) on national TV. Both of those are deal breakers with me and, well, to reiterate, more than enough for me to discard him, even for a job in a shelter.
In any case, if you accept the info he's shoveling out right now, that the US is doing better than all of you (UK and other major countries that have controlled the virus), I hope that "fact" sounds ridiculously insane to you and impossible to believe (because it is--it's called "gas lighting"). That's what I'm dealing with here in the great city of Detroit.
Speaking of the French-named city, I guarantee that your impression of Detroit (if you even have one) is far, far worse than it actually is. No, it's not perfect butg a person can cherry pick some statistics but that's not the overall picture. In fact, it's on a nice upswing.

In any case, don't buy the WH version of how "awesomely" they handled the virus because it couldn't be further from the truth. If you get the urge to trust POTUS (because usually you can which is a fact that I'm proud of) just whip out the graphs, especially the number of deaths.
Note: Many here (most?) may well be better informed of US politics than I (you're known for being on top of things) so I'm not trying to give a lesson, necessarily, but just a view from someone whose mired in this ridiculous situation.
Cheers.

Early in July our city of Melbourne went into lockdown stage 3 which was kind of tolerable but it was not enough. By the end of the month we had gone from low double digits to over 700 new cases daily. In August we went to stage 4 which was curfew 8.00pm to 5.00am, no restaurant, pubs, no gatherings at all. One person per household allowed to shop for one hour once per day and no further than 5 kilometres from home. No visitors - zilch. Exercise one hour per day max and masks had to be worn when outside of home. Click and collect purchases only so no retail apart from pharmacies, bottle shops and supermarkets. There is another week to go but today only 21 new cases over night.

Yes its been tough but it has saved lives and the crime rate has dropped dramatically as the crooks cannot get about easily. Gave plenty of our customers time to brew too.

Frankly I read from DavidDetroit about what is going on there and you have to wonder how many died needlessly because this POTUS wants to foist his orange face on the world‘ TV screens for ever. You know in Australia we only ever got 14 infected people from China but hundreds of infected passengers from Los Angeles came in well after we stopped the flights from China. Wish you all luck there in the UK and hope you can stock up on brewing essentials because this thing is not over by a long shot. I doubt we will see anything like normality before Christmas at the earliest.

The government is understood to be considering a short period of tighter rules across England - "a circuit break" - which could involve closing hospitality venues.

However, schools and workplaces would stay open.

No 10 is also looking at limiting the opening hours of pubs and restaurants across the country, as has already happened in many areas of north-east England, where pubs had to close at 22:00 BST on Friday.

Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner called for the government to hold an emergency Cobra meeting, look at the science and improve its communication so "people can do the right thing".

"If the government are able to do that, we will back them," she told the BBC.
