Crystal malt substitution

I have some crystal 30 ebc which needs using up. If a recipe needs crystal 60 (for example), can I just use twice the quantity of crystal 30 or doesn't it work like that?

Doesn't work like that, what did you want to make?You could add some dark munich into the mix along with some crystal to get some colour.

I haven't decided yet. I'm just looking through recipes to see if anything catches my eye but most don't use any crystal as light as crystal 30

A nice pale ale. Base malt plus some of the crystal 30. A lot of the Brewdog pales/single hop beers are this if you have a look at DIY Dog

There's even an app for that. Sometimes better than browsing through the pdf.

I've got the app on my kindle fire. The creator of the app signed up to the forum to let forumites he'd done it and get feedback on it. So I downloaded it to see what it was like. I find it much easier than browsing the PDF, especially as you can use search filters to find things you might be interested in (styles, ingredients, etc)

Brewtoad has ingredient filters on its recipe database. Here's what it comes up with when you input crystal 10L (I had to convert 30EBC to L as it doesnt have EBC in it's database as it's an Amercan site. 30EBC is 11.8L so I used 10L as thats closest)
