Made a rushed purchase the other day and bought an AG 'kit' from these people:http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/ellie-claire?
A Holy Smoke Rouchbier. Opened it up and noticed the sell by date 'Oct '16. ( best use it then..? ). Then spotted the sell by date had been altered from May16. Close inspection revealed a replacement yeast pack inside but original everything else. I'm guessing all will still be OK if I get a move on. But just a warning to other mugs who might be tempted by ellie-claire....

Your just a sucker for a pretty face

As long as the malt doesnt smell stale you should be fine. I've made beer from stale malt before and it just required longer conditioning time as it inatially had a twang, like a kit. But it conditioned out

I've bought loads from that seller, they often advertise out of date stuff as such and at a reduced price. Prices are usually reasonable and deliveries actually turn up on time which seems to be a rarity for eBay these days. Judging by the stationery in the box it appears to be my LHBS in disguise, Brewgenie. Never seen anyone looking like her in the shops. reckon that's just some random picture off google images.

I have used this seller before and have not had any problems whatsoever.
I don't put up with accepting things that are not what I expected, so if you think that your purchase is not what you ordered you should talk to the seller and say you are not happy and see what they are prepared to do about it, and take it from there. Internet purchases are covered by the Sale of Goods Act just like something you buy in the shops.

Thanks lads! I think the grains & hops are OK, they're all vacuum sealed and look good. I'll brew it soon and then we'll see. It was a good price. I don't recall it being advertised as past it's date...maybe in the small print.....Myqul, you may be right -sucker for a pretty face.....though I'm more of a leg man usually...

Brewed ellie-claires Holy Smoke rouchbier a week ago. The yeast, (Mangrove-Jack M84), said 9 - 14 deg C. I set inkbird to 11deg and waited. After 72 hours nothing. So, made up a starter with another packet of M84. Started well & added it to FV. Next day, nothing. So, decided to raise temp to 15deg. Next day some very minor activity. Don't know why, but I decided to test inkbird against another thermometer & looks like I. B. Is 2 degs 'slow'. Last night, raised it to 17...this morning going like the clappers....!
I learned a valuable lesson....don't trust your inkbird to be accurate, check it & adjust it first...
