Two years kegging and tonight I decided I would try using the beer in port and wow how easy it is.

Equipment : Syphon hose, beer in post connection with barb and a corny keg.

Simply setup transfer as normal but rather than place the tube directly into the fermenter connect start the syphon with beer in the line then kink to stop the flow momentarily whilst you connect the hose end to the barb connection and its done.
Simples as the only thing left is to wait until keg has filled leaving your hands free for anything else that needs attention.

Looks good, planning to do the same. My one query is fill level. Do you simply stop at ~18l using the gradings on the FV?

Even better if you purge the keg with co2 before hand, seal and either put a gas connector on the gas post or loosen the pressure release valve to allow flow.
How do you know when it’s full?

Currently trying to harvest CO2 from the FV with this in mind. Not working, I doubt a can get sufficient seal in a plastic bucket! Maybe some tape...

Not all FV's have a good seal but there are others who ferment in kegs thus giving the option of keg to keg transfer.

I love my fv snubnose, you do need a tall larder fridge to fit them in though. As soon as we get back to some sort of normality i will get rid of my under counter fridge and get another larder fridge.

Then more money on another snub nose fv.They improved my beer so much, that and kegs.

I don't have my snubnose in a fridge. Just tucked away in a cupboard. I have a larder fridge but that's for my kegs.
I have 3 tbh, an undercounter for fermenting (gifted), larder for kegs only two mind and an integrated fridge freezer for beer related top and bottom though two were hijacked when our chest freezer broke.
Would really like to get a snubnose as I've mentioned but I will be splitting the garage up to make a tool store at the front and raising the floor at the back with joists and stud divider for a games/brew room as both my son and I use it and although it's part of the house it gets cold due to the roller door.

I got my lader fridge for free from a friend, he said it stopped cooling, cut the thermostat out and bypassed it.Works perfect now and chills down to 2c.
Hopefully can find another cheap/free at some point.
