Hi guys,

A few days ago I decided I'd really like to have a go a brewing my own lager for my bar. I have a couple of the 5l kegs and thought it would be good. I've decided to go with the Cooper's European lager as my first attempt I've got the enhancement kit 3 to go with it. Is there anything else you would recommend I get or do for my first attempt. I've got all the equipment from a friend and the steriliser ect.

But be aware that this kit needs about 12 weeks to come good. You can drink it before of course but its better for keeping.
And if you haven't brewed before you might find this useful

Thank you for your reply very much appreciated, stupid question time what do you mean by a hop tea? And what exactly do the saaz or Hallertau hop pellets do to the beer?

Hop tea is simply hop pellets or whole flowers steeped briefly in hot water, the liquid being added to the fermenter at or near the end of fermentation to enhance hop aroma - the variety of hops used will add it's own subtly different character.

I have to say this was one of the first kits I made on my return to brewing and comes out a very authentic Stella-a-like beer just using a Muntons 1kg beer enhancer. I found the bitterness level spot on with a subtle hop aroma like the commercial brew it is styled after. Out of bottle it was a superbly clear beer with excellent carbonation and good head retention. Enjoy your brew!

Paul.
