    Morning,
Have planned a brew for today but just realized my flaked oats are with husks.
I presume I need to adjust the weight but not sure by how much. Anyone an experience of this?

I would guess and this is just a guess that it would be less than 10%. I use oat husks and you get a very large bag in comparison to grain as they are very light

I haven't any experience of the husks on oats but I wouldn't be concerned about it, just carry on as normal.

the addition of oat with husks will help in not getting a stuck mash so no probs there just add a little more grain if you are worried about the FG being slightly lower but I think as I have said in the first post it is very small

Thanks for input. I increased but by a bit more, nearer 20%, total 15% of the malt bill. Fingers crossed it’ll work out fine. (No stuck mash)

Did you precook the oats? Did you increase your base malt?

No to both of those. Wasn’t aware that they needed pre cooking. Is this always the case?

If you buy flaked oats from a home brew store, they generally don't need cooking, but as you mentioned husks, I was presuming you are using steel cut oats.

Flaked Oats with husk, you should use double the amount of these when the husk is included
