hallow all,
just finished the second brew day until I hand back the GF n stuff back @BeardedMag thax again bruv.
the brew was going to be a bit Brian seat of ya pants affair...had the recipe done..grains hops n all that done..then changed my mind on loads if thing!!!
stepped mash...only coz I can, ill look at my old notes etc n see if it makes any difference..
Mash schedule:
protein n whatsitchops rest 52c @ 30 mins
Beta 65c @ 30 mins
Alpha 72c @ 15mins
mash out 78c @10 mins.

Fursty ferret clone-(nearly) 23l
no chill
3.47kg marris otter
440g crystal
350g red x
220g flaked maize
150g rice hulls.
12g challenger @ 60 mins
12g EKG, Fuggles @ 10 mins
49g dry hop @ 4 days...(To be decided)
English ale yeast
they mention orange peel in the boil...didn't do it...maybe later on.
est sg 1.045...I got 10.46
OG 10.10
est ABV 4.73%

pH was 5.5...

tbh I can see the stepped mash helped...
the rive hulls was a savour..ttbh

No Bother at all mate I'll be picking it up at some point to crack on with the Proper Punk IPA and then the Limey we were texting about this morning :)

been a long long time since I ever followed up all the way from recipe maker to final pour n taste...
Still got a long we for conditioning but it lacks hoppiness....

that's why 2# may be a savour..
time will tell.
just having a tap sample test in the mo...but reckon no way getting to the FG of 1.010.

hi all,
as I said ages ago I'm looking at finishing a brew start to finish...
so this is my shocking truth with a 2# fursty 10l batch.
wart n all.
no shakes we the brew, fermentation, dry hop etc.
bottled as usual...
but this bottle wasn't right!!!

bloody gusher....then..Phenolic taste.

water treatment right...
brandnew bottles....cleaned and starsan over n over..
Bad yeast strain!!!
not one bottle, the whole lot.
I had a bad yeast strain years ago with 1l bottles...brand new etc.
used west Yorkshire ale (1469)
ohhh well...bottles washed oot....oven cleaned and they get starsan as usual for the batch..
