The excitement got to me and I decided to brew the black IPA this weekend (helped by rapid delivery of the hops and subsequent grain order).

Post Mash gravity is 3 points higher than expected, might have something to do with the extra 500g of Crystal I added by accident.

We’ve reached a boil, I think I’ve over sparged.

OG came in at 1.067, so if this ends at the expected 1.011 it’ll be a 7.6% 🥳🤩🥴

I’ll get the yeast in once it’s fully cooled.

Just popped the first of two dry hops:
Citra and Calypso, 40g each.

Was even tempted to top crop some of the yeast, but didn’t have the kit to hand.

Do people use hop bags or just throw them in?

I was worried when I first started dry hopping about bag or just add, hop tea etc etc.......I just add them (pellets) or use a sealed hop spider if cones. athumb..

Do you then cold crash to settle the hops before racking?

It’s in the bottle, it’s aged well and now ready to send.

I’ll get them sent this week, once received can I have your comments in this post.

Guess what the postman delivered this morning....

It's gone straight in the fridge so I can give it the attention it deserves.
Though it won't be tonight as I have a plan already for later.
A bit of anticipation helps the flavour anyway 😛🍺

Fantastic, sorry it took so long to get them to the post office. I hope you enjoy!!!!

Let me know what you think.

Well, guess what I just opened 🍺

The bottle opening gave a little hiss as evidenced by the pet bottle tightness, so we have carbonation!
Pouring gave only a little head that soon dissipated as shown in the picture.
No immediate discernible nose, I think I may have chilled it to much.
There was a sediment in the bottle (to be expected) which remained in place after pouring.
First taste gave an impression of a solid body with a tart finish.
As I've left it to warm a little I can start to taste more complex flavours.

I'd drink it again, in fact I have another to do just that! :beer1:

Aaron, congratulations on a nice brew 👍
One to be proud of 🤘
