While cleaning the lines I did a bit of a stock take (felt the weight of the kegs!) and I may just have to implement my contingency capacity. I have four empty kegs (actually 3 plus the Summer Breeze which I’ve decided to write-off) and another two kegs that are about to kick - saison and bitter 😱

My contingency capacity is two more fermentation buckets with immersion heaters that I can set up in the garage.

You shouldn't have taken that holiday. I thought I had 4 fullish kegs but it turned out 3 are near empty

Delivery today in readiness for my next tranche of beers. This next batch, probably starting Monday, will be an English Bitter, IPA, Schwarzbier, Weissbier.

With an upcoming birthday I told my wife I was thinking about getting a barrel to make some barrel aged beers.

What I had in mind is a 20 litre re-coopered barrel.

Normally in these situations she would consult with me about what I’m looking for, maybe ask if I’ve seen something in particular. You know the routine.

On this occasion however she went solo…😂

I’ve just kegged my first ever spruce beer. It’s just come out of the fermenter so isn’t yet conditioned or carbonated. It looks quite clean and is a nice golden colour. On the nose a big hit of lemon citrus sherbet. The flavour is similar to start and then a peppery pine flavour develops and lingers a while at the finish. I’m looking forward to seeing how this one develops. FG is 1006 and ABV is 6.5%

After explaining that 200l of Imperial Stout might be greedy at a homebrew scale my wife got me something more in line with my plans, bless her 😘

This morning I kegged the premium bitter you can see in the picture above. It was a lovely clear ale and from the initial taste I have high hopes for it. I had a little over 19 litres so I put the last of it in a bottle and force carbed it for a later - unfortunately I got a bit greedy and picked up a little yeast so tonight’s treat isn’t quite as clear.
